------------------
1. Added enhancement for Wifi sniffer function.
Direct Download Link:
http://ftp.us.dell.com/bios/1530_A12.EXE
The BIOS / WiFi switch section now contains settings for controlling Cell behavior as well. -
Thanks, updated to A12 from A11.
-
my computer seems to run a lot quieter
-
thanks a lot
-
Thanks for the update!
-
any notable difference compared to A09?
-
Thanx for the info!
-
Hmm.. This BIOS update seems to have fixed the HDD clicking problem.
Previously i had to use hdparm to get rid of the clicking.
Everything else seems to be fine. Temp's are normal.
(oh!! sorry for the double post.. my bad!) -
Right, i have dowloaded the latest A12 BIOS (link here) for my M1530, as pointed out by hotrent1 in this post.
According to the downloads site, the only update is "Added enhancement for Wifi sniffer function."
Can anyone tell me what this means??lol might be obvious sorry for my ignorance if it is...
Also do you guys think this will be the same as A11, but with the wifi sniffer function added?
Im not sure wether to update to this or stick with A09, as i had some temp. problems with A11.
Might fire it up and see, i can always roll back... -
lol, you know that a very same topic regarding the bios is like one topic down from you and it' sonly nine posts long.
bios a12 seems to run a lot cooler; wifi sniffer is that thing on the right side of your computer that you press to hceck if there are wireless signals around.
A11 was bad because it just made your fans run 24/7 (bad) so dell promptly took it off. this version is a lot better. -
-
Thank you very much for the update
Cin -
updated and it works without flaw so far.
-
Vista is reporting about half an hour less battery time
-
What else can i say ... Well done DELL ! lower temperature , no more AC adapter error ! no more hardriver clicking noise ! Well done! ^^ < Happy XPS 1530 owner ^^
-
BenLeonheart walk in see this wat do?
Lower temperatures?
really?
:S -
I still don´t see any big differences between both A11 and A12. No lower temperatures and no less noisy hdd.
-
=]] I don't know what's happen on your lappy but that's the differents I see in my XPS compare with A09 and A11 (I always have HWmonitor on)
-
Wow, chill out... we are just sharing our experiences. You see changes, i don´t. Maybe i´m right, maybe you are right, let´s see what happens. Regards.
-
Posting the first big problem with A12 - just updated, and my batteries stopped charging. Battery status read "plugged in, not charging", this persisted after two restarts, two chargers, and both 9-cell and 6-cell batteries. Retreated to A09, all good again.
-
I do seem to be getting less time on my battery though by about 30 mins
and the temps are the same as A09 and no quieter HDD (set to performance in BIOS) -
Updated to A12 - No problems at all. Battery charging well and everything is just as fine as it was before. Battery time is the same for me.. no reduction. cheers.
-
Same, battery charging normal. No good or bad news.
-
Upgraded to A12 not noticed anything different from A09 at all hdd still clicks, temps are the same.

Upgraded to A12 from A11
The only difference I can see is the fan doesn't go to full speed (under intensive load) like it did on A11. -
Just upgraded to A12. Seems that my fan is going on a lot more than before (A11). I haven't check CPU temps, etc. yet.
-
OK. This is weird. The HDD clicking hasn't completely gone away.. i restarted my computer just an hour back and the clicking came back.. so i restarted again, and this time after booting into vista there was no clicking!! don't knw wats going on.. the HD seems to be clicking at random restarts..
Anybody else facing this?
Edit:
Hmm.. i've narrowed it down to this - the clicking starts if i shut down my notebook and then restart again. But there's no clicking if i jus restart the notebook. i have no idea wats going on! but everythin else seems to be fine. just a minor, weird glitch i guess. -
I don't have the hardware clicking problem so i don't know if it's affected
I didn't see any big difference in going to A12 from A9
maybe just a slight temp drop round 4-5 C max -
I Just upgraded to A12 last night. I was running A11 before the upgrade. Everything seems to be ok. The fan runs quieter and no other issues with any hardware and software problem.
-
Installed A12, clicking is quieter but not completely gone. Fans are running more often, but quieter. Temps are the same. Wifi finally finds the strongest signal to connect to rather than the first it finds (which was the actual fix mentioned publicly).
-
ok i didnt notice anything last night when i upgrades from A09, it seems the fan is on medium all the time now so yes temps are cooler but its niosy.
-
That's weird, Trend Micro is reporting the A12 BIOS is a virus - PAK Generic.006. Is anybody else getting this error? I didn't get any errors with the A09 and A11 BIOS.
-
Last night i did updated to A12 bios, but the temp was bit higher, in case of my gpu the idling temp was around 60-61c. then i rolled back to A09.
A09 is better in ma case, as gpu idles between 52-55c -
Geez with everyone's mixed results I don't know if I should update or not. I'm on A09. My GPU idles at around 58C on the desk and 55C if I have the back elevated with some homemade supports (just tissue folded into blocks lol). Fan turns off at 53C and comes back on at 64C.
Some people say lower temps, some say higher or fan is louder..bah. I want that wifi sniffer though.
when you roll back is it just system restore or is there some other specific way? -
bboy,
in my experience, the A12 bios has not affected my temperatures in any way, the only thing i have noticed is that the fan kicks in at lower RPMs so you will barely notice when it comes on, but it stays on longer because it takes longer to get the heat out.
In case you dont like it you could always install the A09 again, just like you installed the A12, you dont need any backup or restore, you simply overwrite the existing bios with the new or old one.
Best of luck! -
i stand corrected, my temps did increase about 3 C in GPU since i upgraded from A09 to A12....
-
Reverted back to A09!!! The battery still says, 'plugged in.not charging'...!!! Can't believe i'm the only one facing this!
-
-
I wonder if the wi-fi sniffer is making the wireless card run warmer. I never had problems with any BIOS updates.
-
Where can I get the old bios versions A09 and A11. Thanks.
-
-
Thank you Fonduekid.
-
Flashed and works with no problems for me. Haven't noticed any difference in the fan, but it never really bothered me in the first place.
-
-
just updated and the HDD noise is gone, the left palm rest is quite cool as compared to A09 and my temps are about 2C lower, and barely hear the fan kicking on
all in all the best BIOS update for me -

I'm back on A12
My A09 re-flash started making the dreaded hdd clicking (in a bad way!).
So it looks like I'm back to this, even though it now runs a lot hotter, there's no way I could've stood that noise for more than 5 mins, without putting my foot through the screen.
Coupled with the fan, the dvd drive and the clicking hdd this has to be the loudest laptop around, seriously its embarrassing. I can't use it anywhere public. -
Back on topic.. I like A12. My GPU actually hits 55 now! It used to be in the 58-69 range when working, now it's 55-69. Under full load in COD5, I'm at 74, hitting 80-81 every 10 minutes or so. -
hmmm,so the BIOS update worked for some and lowered their temps while for others it lowered the temps. thats strange
-
Got A12 from A09 so far looking good from my end. Currently, GPU temp is 55ish as compared from a reading of 60-63 for A09.
Will closely monitor for any changes...
Thanks, fellas!
