I had the A12 but had to revert back to A11 because the wi-fi wouldn't activate after hibernation and it happened twice. Restarting would solve the problem.

Well I called Dell they couldn't pin down the source of the problem. So, they're sending down an on-site technician next week to replace the motherboard and to deal with some other issues as well. Hope all goes well.

The only changed I noticed after updating to A12 was that the annoying problem with the charger not being recognized went away. My battery is charging normally, and my battery life has changed since the BIOS update. I haven't done any rundown tests to verify "actual" battery life. Under normal/light usage the fan runs less than under the A09 BIOS, haven't done any gaming or movie watching yet.

There is a new update from Dell for the hard drive clicking noise (seagate firmware update). See if it helps.

I've recently placed a 320GB WD Scorpio in my m1530 to replace the 200GB Seagate Momentus; there hasn't been any clicking so far.

I also noticed that my HDD is louder when doing heavy file transfers etc
but normal operation is still quiet.

I did error check for my HDD but no error found.

I will try to re-flash the A12 again and see what will happen.

anyone still have A11? Could someone send me a copy? It is possible to downgrade right?

After upgrading to A12 my Intel 5300 card keeps dropping connection, A11 was perfect.

I once bricked my old Toshiba laptop while flashing the BIOS, so I have flashophobia now....

What's the safer way to upgrade, and how safe is it?

What are the chances of bricking my XPS, and what are my options if that happens? it means motherboard replacement?

    thanks

Does anyone feel like their 1530 goes into hibernate faster after the A12 upgrade? Mine sure feels like it...like, a good 5 seconds faster.

Upgraded today and reading the mixed results. I can hear the occasional click sound but that's about the same amount as my A09 except I'm more aware of it because of the comments on previous pages. No noticeable differences for me, for the past 10 minutes GPU has been between 55C and 63C, that includes an antivirus, MSN, no WiFi, in total having 71 processes running. Probably doesn't help very much but that's that. Fans kicked in at 63C and very quiet remarkably. Temperatures decreased quickly. I guess the upgrade wasn't incredibly beneficial nor was it detrimental; battery still works too.

have uploaded the file on rapid share.PM me to get the file

The best way would be to download the BIOS from dell's site and run the file while your adapter is plugged in the OS shuts down the screen turns grey and your BIOS is flashed and your computer reboots
IMHO The chances of your computer bricking are quite low, mine didn't brick even once : :D

and for all the people who have problems with their adapters not being recognized, was your adapter plugged in while flashing the BIOS because it is important for your adapter to be connected while flashing the BIOS.Also if you just blow some air into the 3 pins of the adapter it starts working(it did for me) :D

It won't let you flash without having it connected, so yes I did have my AC adapter connected. Dell's tech support didn't know what the problem was either, so they just sent over a motherboard replacement, like I said. This new one had A11 and there were no problems going to A12.

First of all ... sorry for reviving an old thread

Anyway, i just upgraded from A09 to A12 in my m1530

Result so far (after 24 hours) has been great. No HDD clicking issues as other people points out. Sure idle temp has gone up a little, but thats good. Heres why.

The cause of nvidia card failure is due to constant thermal cycle (ie ... constantly going up and down from 55 to 70 in a few minutes). With the A12 updates, the temp has been idling between 62-66, which is pretty good. (and please note its summer time in Australia ... Ambient temperature matters A LOT)

Other than that ... im happy with A12.

I just upgraded from 09 to 12 becuase my battery will only charge to 80% before quiting, is that a normal problem? My laptop is lesss then 10 months old and I have the 9 cell w/90w charger. It says "82% available, not charging"

Hi, i'm new to this forum. After reading all the post regarding on the a12 bios update which i've also recently installed, i've encountered the battery charging problem and was stuck on a12 due to my battery levels have already dropped below 10%. However, i've made a boot CD that flashes your Bios even if your battery levels are zero. Now that i'm back to a09 i'm all happy, so i'm here to share my image file. It contains all bios update files, ranging from a05 to the problematic a12.

    Here's the link: http://rapidshare.com/files/189310796/M1530_Saviour_CD_Elton.rar

Instructions are included in the rar file. This Boot cd is intended for those who are screwed by dell's stupid bios updates and has the same problem as i had. If your battery levels are above 10%, please use the regular method to flash your bios as this method is dangerous if you accidentally unplug your AC adapter and leaving you a fried mobo that's as useful as a brick.

    Gotta rep you for that!

I've been having major problems with the battery not charging. Dell sent a new adaptor that didn't fix the problem and I was just getting ready to call back for a motherboard replacement, but this should hold me over in the short term. I may still need new a motherboard BUT THE BATTERY IS FINALLY CHARGING AGAIN! :woot:

I have the same problem for clicking noise but i solve it by update firmware of my samsung hm500li.
Dell had written in its description that:
-This firmware update corrects a clicking noise.
I used it and my hard disk's noise and heat highly reduced.
You can Download it from this link: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/download.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&releaseid=R217232&SystemID=XPS_M1530&servicetag=&os=WLH&osl=en&deviceid=17167&devlib=0&typecnt=0&vercnt=1&catid=-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=2&libid=41&fileid=312131
olso you can download firmware for other models from Drivers and Download section in "SATA Drives" part.
olso I updated my BIOS by A12 ver. and my laptops works cooler now and i haven't problem by charging , ...

A12 killed my ability to charge my battery. Downgraded to A09 and everything went back to normal. This scared the hell out of me, but all is well now.

    Bumping Old thread again.

My brothers girlfriends xps m1530 wont charge the battery. We went ahead and replaced the battery with a new dell battery and still a no go. I desoldered the old ac port on the power board and resoldered a new one, no dice. I used my alienware m11x power adapter 90w and still nothing. In windows it shows the battery and power works, but the battery wont charge.

I'm trying to revert to the A09 bios as people have mentioned, however I'm getting an error.

I'm booting off a usb flash drive with the A09 rom file and I get into the flash bios update program (C:\1530_a09 /forceit). It says, "This bios does not support the level of hardware in this system. Rom update no performed.

I also tried the windows installer, and couldn't do it that way either.

I was able to reinstall bios A12, so does dell not allow you to revert back to an older bios for this model, or is it because of the T6600 CPU that she has.

I'm at a loss now and have been trying to figure this out for the last 5 hours. I'm going to get some sleep and attack this again tomorrow.
