Kingston.. Not G.Skill.. I'd have preferred Crucial or corsair.. Or OCZ, if they were available..

And no, 8GB isn't superfluous by far.. I have at least 3 or more VMs running simultaneously.. So it helps tremendously.. The only downside is that since I haven't assigned a pagefile that large :p, the system is a wee bit unstable, if one of the VMs crashes..

As for A13.. No downsides so far.. And no.. not bad battery life either.. It still gives me around 5 hours on regular work.. I am guessing there would probably have been problems with the newer procs supported by the update... In any case... this notebook's had its time with me.. Will be getting another in 6 months or less.. Probably a nice tablet.. :D The only thing that bothered me was the fan that became noisy every 3 months.. then I changed the fan to an aftermarket one.. and all's fine.. I don't remember the brand.. but it was something K-Tron recommended..

A14 is here... and A13 is gone? At least in the Dell EU site(s)...!

Not that I have any [current] use for 8GB of memory, but can we assume that the same support is available with A14?

The following BIOS revisions are available on Dell's EU site(s):

    A02, A06, A07, A09, A10, A11, A12 & A14.

My original Nov 2007 mobo came with A05, my Feb 2008 mobo came with A07 and my current (Nov) mobo came with A12 (although A13 was already available, according to this thread...).

    roflmao, that's hilarious :twitcy:

Well my first two mobos died with A05 & A09 respectively (one GPU, one onboard Power)... so what number should I "play" with my latest mobo (now sporting A12, but considering A14)...?

A12 is the best for me until now but I haven't tried A14 yet.

It is difficult to change from such a stable BIOS to an unknown new version. For the time being I stick with A12 until some time passes..

A13 BIOS has been removed from ftp server. That's unusual since other older BIOS versions are still available.

    Use A14 BIOS or higher:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=323944

However that's bad news for those with 8GB memory, since A14 doesn't support 8GB as A13 did. And A15 is not available yet.
