If you forget it's gonna be hard

if you forget you have to open up the laptop to reset it(jumper/switch on the MB or remove the battery on the MB). it's not the end of the world but it's going to be a bit of a headache.

Setting the password is rather useless since anybody can open up ur lappy and reset it anyways.

I wouldn't hesitate to set a BIOS password if I was living in any kind of shared accomodation (student digs, on-campus etc). People messing with other people's laptops (in the rare event that such messing doesn't lead to straight-forward theft) is commonplace.
Setting a BIOS password also means nobody can enter the BIOS and mess with the settings there. It also means nobody can boot off a USB drive to bypass your OS. -

That is probably the best reason to use a BIOS password. -
it really doesnt do much in my opionon. If anything it makes the other person more likely to steal the entire laptop since itll just take xtra time to take apart the laptop to reset mobo.

That is good to know if I ever have to worry about Tom Cruise suspended over my XPS, trying to hack into my itunes. -
I use a bios password and a hard drive password and a windows password. All three are different. First comes the hard drive password. As soon as the computer comes on or even out of sleep there is the white screen they need to input the password.
Most thiefs are not smart enough to how to get around these. -
I remember about 8 years ago, a roommate set a bios password on his desktop. Told us all he did it (we kept doing stuff like leaving some tasty desktops when his parents or girlfriend would come over). So when he left to the store, I reset it and put my own password on it.
He got super mad, because he thought it was foolproof, and thought he forgot his password and had no idea what do to. hahah good times -
