Hey guys,
I recently bought an XPS 15 9560.
There seems to be an issue and I can't figure out whats the root cause.
So everytime I game on battery, the game runs flawlessly and nothing happens. But when I plug the laptop into AC power, I get a BSOD within 5 mins and the computer restarts on its own. So far the BSOD has shown multiple causes ( RESOURCE_NOT_OWNED , BAD_POOL_HEADER , dxgmms2.sys error , POOL_CORRUPTION_IN_FILE_AREA )
I have updated all my drivers but still the problem persists.
Please let me know of a solution.
Thanks in advance

You do know that the VRM modules on the XPS series overheat under heavy load, right? If the ambient temps are high, that could cause the THRM point to be tripped and thus a system shutdown.

Yeah I did but I was just suprised as to how easily mine overheated. Would it help if I kept it at a different battery setting (not High Performance mode) ?

No, the main issue is that the VRM modules have no cooling whatsoever and the airflow generated by the fans is not enough to keep them from going above 100*C

So is there a fix to the issue ? or do I just avoid gaming all together then

You can mod it internally by adding specific thermal pads in pre-defined places as well as repasting, there is a guide somewhere here on the forums, but aside from that, nothing to be done really.

You can also try asking Dell for help - the problem may be the motherboard itself as well (I believe the XPS series have Next Business Day service on them)
