My XPS M1330 is suffering some weird LCD backlight issues. It's becoming more frequent nowadays and it is starting to get annoying. What happens is that my laptop would shut down with the LCD working. The next time I boot it up, there's a random chance that the LCD will not light up. I have to resort to connecting to an external monitor to work on my laptop. And the next time it shuts down, sometimes the LCD lights up, sometimes it doesn't. Recently, the screen also turns white momentarily upon shutting down.

I don't know why my laptop screen is acting up like this. Is there a solution to this problem?

Btw, my laptop suffered the GPU problem defect a couple of months back. I was wondering whether this will recur despite my motherboard being replaced with a new one?

    :)

Sounds like a loose connection or shorting connection. You should contact Dell ASAP and report the issue. Explain to them when the LCD is dead and you connect an external display, all works fine. More than likely they are going to send out a refurb LCD and a tech. They may possibly replace the motherboard again as well.

Don't delay though - this sounds like the start of a serious display issue. I dont believe it will be corrected by a different driver version.

As said above - probably the precursor to an even more serious problem.

One possibility is that the motherboard replacement if you had it done on-site may have been loosely done, and that is leading to intermittent connections. While I appreciate the fast response with Dell, I always watch the engineers like a hawk ;)

Either way call them in. You have warranty, so don't bother leaving issues for any time - especially with the M1330 - which is incidentally my crappiest Dell to date by a long way, with a reliability / time-in-fix record over 4 machines which approaches my Apples. I was very glad to see the back of them.

Okay, thanks guys. I updated the BIOS and the graphics driver and the screen still goes blank. :( I shall bring in to get it repaired then, since the problem is still recurring.

PS This is really a bad laptop. It has given me so many video issues. :|

Yeah - I gave it a chance at first because in terms of spec it was almost ideal, but between the problems with the keyboard and the screen I finally had to call it a day and get rid of all of them.

I'd say keep sending it back until it's perfect (as can be) and press for a replacement with the XPS 13 if things still aren't to your satisfaction. As I said to the tech support guys - we're not dealing with a netbook but a supposedly premium machine in Dell's lineup.
