I recently bought XPS 17 and was wondering if anyone knew of a good Sleeve or anything. From what i've heard this machines tend to heat up pretty fast and would not be advisable to place them in any nylon or heat conducting materials. Also how would foam sleeves hold up for this laptop considering you've just used the system right before placing it in. You could posts any suggestion and recommendations regarding this.

I am interested in getting a sleeve as well and was wondering if some brands were better than others...

Putting it in straight after would contain the heat but it cant get any hotter inside unless put in a pretty hot places.

Before buying read the reviews to make sure it does fit the dimensions of the laptop.

I have the case found -> here, guess dell no longer sells this...here is amazons link and the products home page

I think this model may have been discontinued but I'm sure they have something similar.

The XPS 17 fits and it actually has an internal sleeve the laptop goes in and then that slides into the case. The sleeve is open on the top with a velcro strap across to hold the laptop tight.

I put the ac adapter on top of the laptop for short trips as I don't use the case that much. but it does have side pockets etc.

I know my laptop hasn't arrived yet, but I have ordered the Belkin Neoprene Sleeve and taken delivery of a Crumpler Barnie 17" messenger bag.

I don't think the Crumpler bag is wide enough. The internal dimensions listed are fine - but the padded notebook compartment is actually a little smaller.

When my XPS17 finally arrives, I'll try it and update here.

Has anyone come across a canvas or less corporate looking bag?

I am not interested in a backpack design and a sturdy/strong shoulder strap (in particular where it connects the bag and hardware) is a must given the weight of these machines.

I have been using a 'Simple' canvas style bag for the last few years that I loved, but it has disintegrated and their web site has no similar option anymore.

    Thanks

    KSM

The Belkin bag I am using is very strong, one of the strongest bags I have ever used in the last few years and has a nice felt padding inside to protect the laptop. Have a look at one of my previous posts on this thread...

I ordered this before my XPS-17 arrived when Newegg ran it on shellshocker for $24.99 delivered. This was despite one comment that some 17' models wouldn't fit, and was pleased to find that the XPS-17 fits.

"Wenger Black 17" MYTHOS Computer Case Model GA-7496-06F00"

I guess you'd call it a messenger bag style. It has decent padding in the area where you stow the laptop and in the area there's a pocket that the laptop fits it. that provides extra padding and prevents the laptop moving too and fro. The XPS-17 is a snug fit in the pocket as it's a bit wider that some other 17" laptops, e.g. the Inspiron 9100 I've been using for a year or so. Width is the tight dimension, so while I got the smaller battery because I didn't want the ridge on the higher cap battery, I'm fairly sure the ridge would not be an issue. There's the usual complement of pockets for a charger, mouse, cat-5 cables, etc.

A buddy who got a different Dell 17" laptop a month ago said he found this model at the local Wal-Mart for about $35.
