I just got from Dell a new 6-cell battery for my M1330. After a rather battery-intensive day (multiple AC connects/disconnects, High Performance power Mode, rendering an HD movie in Studio 11 while viewing photos), I checked Battery Bar (thanks much to the poster who suggested I download it) and my week-old battery now shows 15% wear.
If helpful to note, the room was probably a little bit hotter than a typical air-conditioned living room, though not by much, and the laptop was used both on a table and on laps, with plenty of room for the laptop to vent.
I can deal with the 15%, but I'm afraid it will end up frying the battery entirely when I actually have to "push" the laptop's performace. The new capacity is 48,651 mWh instead of 57,720 mWh. I do not overclock nor have I modded my laptop in any way. Does it make sense that the battery should wear that much so fast?

Shouldn't wear out that fast. Did you prime the battery with charge/discharge for at least 3 times? It's a 6 cell battery and should only last for a couple of hours on high performance. Does the battery have the button on the battery itself to measure power?
-
that cant be a accurate reading. its brand new. check it after like a week of use. but if its not a dell battery and a knock off then its probaly correct.

Back to the point leave on charge for 3 to 4 hours once done use laptop on battery power until flat or 5% power left then place back on charge. -
Thanks for the replies. Yes, as I mentioned, I got it from Dell so it is a genuine Dell battery, and made in Japan, by the way.
So I should charge it to 100%, then let it run and drain until Windows shuts it off at 5%, then fully recharge it in one shot, then check Battery Bar to see if it shows the full amount?
EDIT: I just shut it down and pulled the battery: only 3 lights on the battery light up when I push the test button on the battery. Can this be reversed, possibly? -
I let it drain to about 10% and then fully charged it. No change.

A new battery should not loose more than 10% capacity in a year , I recommend you get a replacement.
