    Dell XPS 15:
    Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-740QM Processor (1.73GHz, 4Core/8Threads, turbo boost up to 2.93Ghz, 6M cache)
    Memory: 6GB Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM (2 x 2G) (operates at 1066MHZ for Core i5 processors)
    Hard Drive: 500GB, 7200RPM
    Display: 15.6HD (1920 x 1080)
    Video Card: 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 435M

This config has no Optimus tech right?

So, what sort of battery life would I be expecting from the above-configured XPS 15 (a six cell battery).

I defininitely get 2 hours with 6 cell battery. I have i7-740QM and 15.6" 720p. I don't want to lie, because I wasn't really cheking how long does it last on battery, but it is something around 2 hours and 30 minutes.

You are correct this config doesn't have optimus tech.

What I'm confused with this laptop is that my speakers tinkle/jingle on volume height more than 50 or 70; and the problem isn't actually with speakers. Because if I'll put some pressure on the body of the laptop they do not produce this sound. And also I don't understand what are the normal temperatures for the laptop CPU when it is idle. I'm getting 52-60, but my cooler/fan is running all the time on the medium power and sometimes on high power. I don't know if this is normal for this laptop.

I recieved mine on Friday and have exactly the same problem, also the crossover frequency doesn't seem right as the top speakers seem to be trying to produce the bass that the subwoofer should be producing. I think this is what may be causing the rattling but can't be sure.

I have to put a small amount of pressure on the right of the keyboard to stop the problem.

Does anyone else have this issue?

With a slight bit of patience I've narrowed mine down to the return/enter key. It's slightly loose compared to the rest of the keys and a slight bit of pressure over any corner of it (the centre seems ok) stops the rattle. It's possible that this doesn't occur on US systems due to the different size enter key to here in the UK. I'm going to log a call with Dell tomorrow will let you know the outcome.

    Hello :)

Mine laptop is also from UK, I've received it on 29th of November. It looks like your situation is slightly better than mine.

In my laptop left speaker is producing this weird sound when I'm listening to music or watching film. And it produces this sound only on high frequency, it's not medium or lower (subwoofer). Moreover, when I'm making skype call my left speaker is absolutely fine, whereas the right speaker starts to produce this sound. This really annoys me.

Have you called DELL? What did they say? I wasn't calling, because I'm flying home next week on holidays and will be absent for one month. So there is no point for me calling DELL at the moment..

I've just spoken with Dell and although my warranty is collect and return they're sending out a service engineer tomorrow. They've said that it's because it's a new laptop but (call me suspicious) I'm wondering if there's a bit more to this than meets the eye.

    I'll update tomorrow.

    Thanks for the info.

I hope that if I'll call them in the end of January, they won't say that they will not do it.

When they make an instant decision like that to send out an engineer you know for a fact that its a regular problem they've encountered but also good news for you as it should (holding my breath) be a quick simple fix. Hope you dont prove me wrong tomorrow :)

Yes, past about 70% volume, I get rattling/distortion. Putting pressure on the right side of the system seems to help stop it.

Small update, Dell called to say it will be later in the week as they've run out of stock on the keyboards. The guy that I spoke to wouldn't give me any indication as to whether or not this was a common issue.

MODS: I've become very conscious that this is an epic thread hi-jack is there any chance we could move this audio / rattling issue into a separate thread? It may make people more aware of it then as well. Thanks

Well Dell finally came out to replace the keyboard today and there is no change they are now saying that it is a design problem and as the laptop is performing as designed there is nothing else that they can do. I'm going to get back on to them tomorrow when I've not had as long a day and see if I can talk to someone a bit higher up the chain.
