There is a small, short beeping noise that occurs randomly from my xps 1530. The beeps, on average maybe occur ever 1 to 2 minutes at random. I downloaded HD Tune to check the "health" tab, but no information loads when I have the "health" tab selected. What can I do?

I think Vista has a diagnostic utility for hard drives. If it doesn't, try using another program that works with SMART.

Well I have a dual boot set up with XP and Vista, and am running HD tune in XP. I'll switch to Vista and see if I can get any information.

    Start> Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Computer Management> ...??

I don't have my Vista machine right now, so I don't know exactly... just use a 3rd party program. I know that Vista has a memory diagnostic program, but I'm not sure about HD utilities. Take a look anyways.

Mine had been doing that since I bought it 6mos ago....like a chirping sound... The CPU just blew and I am sending it in for replacement. Not sure if that is related or not.

Well, I have my hard drive partitioned 3 ways, "vista", "xp", and "stuff" (movies, music, files, etc.)

The stuff partition was pretty much maxed out, only had 9 gbs left out of 150. When I ran the performance test in Vista, it told me the "disk test" failed and it was because my "stuff" partition was so full. So I angrily deleted some of my stuff to see if the beeping noise would continue and to see if the performance test would pass. It did pass, but the beeping noise remains, both when I boot into XP and Vista.

I'm not sure what to do. I guess I'll try reformatting my entire computer up again and setting up my dual boot system. And if the beeping remains, call Dell and ask for help? What do you guys think?
