If I wanted one with zero problems, what would I be looking at?

From what I gather, the optiarc is noisy (but otherwise works well?), my teac doesn't want to read anything that is a little scratched/dirty and doesn't seem to want to burn anymore so I want something different... and the matsh!ta has mixed reviews. I used to think the matsh!ta may have been the best of the bunch (UJ875S I believe?) but now I'm not sure.

I'm happy to purchase anything off ebay that will work in this laptop, and I'm thinking that may not be limited to the above three drives? Oh yeah, I don't need blu-ray.

Appreciate thoughts, preferably from people who have had long term experience with one or preferably more than one of the drives mentioned.

Also, will any 12.7mm slotload drive fit, or are their other limitations I should be looking out for?

    Thanks in advance
