    Hey all,

Ive had my xps m1730 for months now and it's been humming along nicely using some 169.09 mobileforce drivers from NF - however, to this day I have not been using SLI with my cards - 8700 GT's as I was told(and i noticed) better performance in Vista 32bit from just a single card.

Has there been any change? I skim the XPS owners lounge thread quite regularly, but I don't know if i have missed out of any changes that have made SLI with the 8700's work better?

What is the go with the 8800's, do the new m1730's come with them, or is their some upgrade option available via dell?

I am really happy with how my laptop performs - it is my desktop away from home as I am living in China for the year, but I would still like to improve performance wherever possible for games such as assassin's creed, lord of the rings online etc

    Any advice truly appreciated,

    cheers
    Marcus

By far the best place to get the most up-to-date Nvidia laptop drivers is Laptop Video2Go.
Just remember to also download/use the modded INF file (available on the drivers page as well) ;)

Yeah... the newer XPS M1730's (like mine) have SLI'd 8800M GTX... and a PhysX card
The M1730 could certainly be upgraded - if 2x 512MB 8800M GTX running in SLI ever turned out not to be enough oooomph  :D
But I'm not sure about your M1710?

I've had excellent results with the 175.16 drivers from laptopvideo2go.

Have you seen any issues with down-clocking or BSOD when recovering from sleep/hibernate mode?

Cool, thanks for the update :)

I've been trying to load 175.19 on my system but haven't had any luck using either the replacement .inf file or the device manager forced driver load. I think I now know why: running Driver Sweeper prevents my SLI-set-up from being visible to the system, so when I try the device manager driver load, it only sees 1 card but never actually does the driver update. I had a buddy of mine try a device-manger driver load without Driver Sweeper being runned beforehand, and his system loaded 175.19 without any problems.

EDIT: I finally got 175.19 loaded by not running Driver-Sweeper before trying the forced driver update from Vista's device manager.

I recommend the 175.80 drivers. I overclock the 8700M GT to (670/890/1340) and the CPU to 3.4GHz and I get 9954 on 3DMark06. The driver seems stable and i have ran this for many days without problems.

I tried these previously on my M1730... unfortunately they had weird artifacting issues in HGL's intro, and I think sleep/hibernate recoveries resulted in BSOD's.

Your video cards are different than mine and the original posters maybe that is why. Also I dont use any of Dell's drivers especially their chipset drivers I use all the original mfgs drivers.

First of all for all your guys trying to find the best drivers for the 8700... Do like I did and invest in the 8800.. HUGE different.. I have no problem anymore.. This thing plays all the games... I am currently playing farcry2, crysis 2, COD and many more and let me tell you.. The 8700 GT can’t compare to the 8800 GTX.. Right now dell has them at around (930.00) but until the end of the month.. I couldn’t resist... and it was worth it. I also replaced my two Seagate 200GB 7200 for the new WD 500GB 5400... These drives actually run faster at 5400 rpm than my original drives at 7200... Something to do with dual plates instead of 3 plates... I did allot of research and got them for around $114.00 each on my favorite computer store (Newegg.com)... Right now I have them installed as a single and a backup drive. I have my entire Startrek Voyager and Enterprise on the backup drive and now I can watch them on the road and still have plenty of room for more DVD's....
