So I'm pretty settled on buying an XPS15 9550 InfinityEdge 4k laptop due to the most power in the smallest 15" laptop size. I was going to go for the FHD model but then realized the 4k screen has better color reproduction (100% sRGB).

What's the best (cheapest?) places you've found to source these? Especially if you live in Canada? Directly from Dell? Third party resellers? Amazon? Microsoft "Signature"?

The particular config that interests me is any of the i7, 4k display combos (since HDs and RAM are upgradable).

So far the best deal I've found seems to come from the Microsoft store, where you get the "Signature edition" i7/4k/512GB SSD/16GB ram for $1899USD -> ~$2600CAD. A similar config on Dell Canadian site is about $2850CAD.

Try ebay if you don't mind the factory refurbished. When I bought mine I didn't see many options on eBay but since I've saw very good deals including premium home service but not sure how that may work given you are in Canada.

Thanks, I've already seen yours, but the bummer is the 4k system is i5, not i7 like I was hoping for.

Lol yeah, that's normally how it works out. I don't notice any difference b/t my i5 and my i7, so I recommended she save a couple hundred each laptop (adds up quick when buying 16 laptops, lol)...

It might be worth it to buy directly from Dell Canada if you can talk them into throwing in a few extras... the guy who processed my order threw in 3yrs Premium support + 3 yr accidental damage service for free on top of a student discount. I paid $3095 CAD (w/ the HST) for my config.

You can get a 10% off deal with Microsoft if you have or know someone with a .edu address. It's a decent chunk of change and you get the signature edition model. Not too bad honestly.

Try the dell outlet. Right now (in the US though) there is 30% off everything. The XPS 15 4k/i5/256gb is 1064 USD after coupon. Most of the Ebayers buy at these prices (or a bit less) and apply a 20-25% markup.

if you're in Canada, buy direct through Dell, but if you can wait for a 10% or 13% Ebates promo

see how that balances out with the MS Store. but they have no Ebates on hardware

How did you get him to throw that in and what's the % off with the student discount? That warranty is over $400 CAD so if i can get that for free than i will, haha!

I think my sales rep was just happy that I finally place an order (their pay is commission based), because I left him hanging for nearly a month while I shopped around (or so I told him :p). They kind of have to throw in something extra to stay competitive, since Microsoft actually undersell dell...As for the student discount I think it was ~$150-200, I don't think it was a certain % off the price just a set amount.

Is there any other website besides Dell where I can purchase the 32GB RAM version?

better to just upgrade the RAM yourself. 16gbx2 is about $200. way cheaper than what dell would charge.

^ yup, the same is true of the SSD as well... the 512GB+16GB combo is the sweet spot!
