Hi! I'm planning to replace the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics with Optimus with a better graphic card. However, I was wondering what graphic cards offer better graphics than the NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 525M 2GB graphics with Optimus that can fit into this very thin laptop.

Sorry but you can't, there isn't any other better GPU that can fit into your laptop.

edit: I should have said that the GPU is soldered onto the motherboard, you can't replace it.

Also I researched other thin laptops with good graphic cards and I came upon the Razer Blade. The Razer Blde is only 0.88 inches (2.24cm) wich is 0.9 inches thinner than the Dell XPs 15z and can still provide a NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M with 2GB dedicated GDDR5 and Optimus Technology. So will I be able to put the GT 555m in my XPS 15z instead of the 525M??

No, as I said before it is soldered onto the motherboard so you can't replace it, your only option is to buy another laptop with a better GPU.

You can't change GPU in laptops.

Then the only way I can change my graphic card is to change my motherboard? Also does this mean that the Dell XPS 15z doesn't have a slot for a graphic card?

Also, then I guess that the Razor Blade's graphic card is soldered onto the motherboard?

You cant change the motherboard since Dell does not offer somerhing better then the 525. There is no MXM slot in this laptop, the GPU is soldered to the motherboard.

Dunno about the razor but probably soldered as well.

On notebookcheck.net I saw that the top left corner area gets hot. Why is this? Is it because the hard drive is there?

No it'll be either the cpu or gpu. Hdd's barely produce any heat. As said already you cant change the gpu unless you can re solder a diff gpu to a new mobo but the likely hood is pretty slim considering you would have to remove the current gpu. But its not worth the hassle as the laptop would then prob overheat. If you want a laptop for gaming, im afraid you'll have to purchase a diff machine. Not that the 525 is a awfull card.

Just only alienware can change Gpu. I you need fasteR Gpu, why buy xps 15z ?

Xps z series, just a good look, performance very poor.

The performance is fantastic. Thank you very much. I'm playing Skyrim right now with pretty much everything set to high at my native resolution.

fantastic ? because you not compare I7-2860QM + Ati 6990 or NVidia GTX 580. that more more different.

That's a ridiculous comparison. Why would I compare those to the 15z? The 15z is about portability while still maintaining powerful silicon. To compare the 15z to something like that is like comparing a lexus to a ferrari. Yes they're both cars. But they couldn't be more different.

the topics is change display card. why need ask ? beause the display card slow.
    why can't portable with higher Cpu/Gpu ?

I believe onthe future may 10 year. much has portability with longer batery life and higher gpu/Cpu.

portability Can't higher cpu/gpu, that just only IT technology very poor. not mean user not need higher cpu/gpu on portability notebook.

So, please don't give the stupid reason portability Can't higher cpu/gpu.

Oh man, 10 years from now we better have Holo-decks.

    On a serious note:

You could do some overclocking for your XPS 15z if you wanna get some extra frames out of your card. Or if you're looking on improving performance on an external level this might be an option: http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-egpu-experiences.html

    @fenikkusu
just wondering what drivers are you using for skyrim? i just ordered 15z with same spec as you and to be honest didnt expect to be able to play in native FHD resolution. did you overclock your 525m to higher than 600mhz aswell?

There are many laptops using a MXM type slot where the GPU can be changed. Not just alienware.

    9800.
