I suffer from migraine that is triggered by changes in luminosity and blinking lights.
I am now reading the review by justGoIt of the M1730 on the Dell website: it talks about "bling bling lights". (This link points to the product, then you have to click on reviews.)
Does anybody know what lights are they?
    can they be turned off?
    are they bright?
    where are they positioned?
or can they just be covered with a sticker?

The lights are not something that will mesmerize you unless you want them to. You can see videos of the lights on youtube if you really want to expose yourself to a migrane. You can turn off all the lights if you wish to. The Bios and quickset software provide you with the ability to change the light colors as well as turn them off. They backlit keyboard can be turned on and off and brightness controlled via keyboard.

Thanks. Checked it out on YouTube, like you said. I could not possibly stand those lights, but if they can be turned off, I am fine.

With Quickset you can turn them on/off as you please. Even just some of them.
For example, I left my touchpad on cause it helps when working in dark environments.

I agree, the backlit keyboard and some of the external lights can really help if you work in a dark environment. It's one of the reasons that I made the selection I did. I work with a wacom tablet and the xps soft lighting is enough to help me see in the dark without having external light sources which can be a strain on my eyes.

If you want to eliminate one of the lights you can pick up the wow version of the 1730. It does not have a led in the DELL logo on the back of the screen. On non wow 1730s the Dell logo lights up on the wow the logo does not light up. At first I thought it was broken but from what I can tell its not supposed to light up --possibly they thought it would take away from the glowing Alliance and or Horde symbols...

I don't get it either....then again people pay an absolute fortune for customization. So if you absolutely love WOW and you want some extra bling that won't potentially void your warranty the shoe may fit.
