So I dropped the extra 40 something for the bluetooth capability in my 1640, thinking it would be a fantastic way to save a usb port and add convenience for an external mouse.
Problem is, I've been to several futureshops, bestbuys, and londondrugs and none of them (okay, there was ONE) have bluetooth mice...
Where would a good place to look be, a place I can actually go in and get a feel (even if only through clear plastic) of the mouse (rather than online like NCIX or Newegg).
Also, what else can the bluetooth be used for? Did I waste 40 bucks?

Do you have a Office Depot? Staples? or even OfficeMax?
They should have BTooth mice
Are you a gamer? What size are you looking for?
Dell has an awesome 5 button BT Travel Mouse!
Here it is: it also comes in Black
Other forum members use it that own Dells!!!
I also have the MS BT 5000, and thats a nice little mouse to use! And, Logitech has some nice BT mice also!
You can use BT for a Wireless Keyboard, sync it to your cell phone, transfer files to friends BT enabled lappys, headphones, etc..

Don't expect to game well w/ BT mouse.

Did you got the Dell travel mouse? That thing is a battery hogger 2 x AA batteries in less than a month! Once turned off you'll have to reconfigured it to detect agian! Highly not a gamer mouse! Super slow even if it's set to the most sensitivty. Just make sure you have a lot of rechargable batteries alvaible!
-
...my batt's lasted me nearly 2 months!
I enjoy the BT Travel mouse very much...I use it *alot* on my 1530, and on my Mini 9..and haven't experienced the above!
Maybe I got lucky..and my luck is coming to an end sometime soon??

BT mouse is still way behind in terms of speed compared to laser mouse. I tried the MS BT 5000; Logitech V470. Both of them lagged so bad that I couldn't stand them. I had to go back to Logitech VX Nano (USB). It is so much better.
If you have to choose, I would not choose the MS BT 5000 since the "eye" is in the middle of the mouse. If you move your mouse like I do, in a lot of cases, the mouse pointer doesn't move because I move the mouse with the windshield wiper motion to make very small movements. Due the the placement of the "eye", it didn't know I was move the mouse. Just my 2 cents. -
I have and like this full size bluetooth mouse

i have the dell brand bluetooth mouse and keyboard and love them. i hardly use the keyboard but i use the mouse all the time. i 'need' the bluetooth mouse exclusively for gaming. whoever says not to doenst know what theyre talking about. the dell bluetooth mouse batteries last way longer than my previous ir microsoft mouse -- mainly because it actually has a power off switch rather than going into standby. the keyboard/mouse combo is great because it matches the studio xps line.

microsoft presenter mouse 8000

I have 3 bluetooth mice, and it doesn't always lag, but it does get you when you need it the most lol. I switched to G9, and never went back.
1 travel cheap crap, 2 from Dinovo sets that are rechargeable btw. -
I use the Dell 5-button Bluetooth Travel mouse, and the batteries haven't died yet in three months. It's a pretty simple optical mouse, so it's not exactly a high DPI gamer's mouse, but I can still play TF2 with it comfortably. It sure isn't my Logitech G9, though.
@AlienContact: You shouldn't have to reconfigure the mouse every time you turn it off and on again. Vista recognizes mine a couple seconds after turning it on. I only had to install it once initially, and it works pretty much instantly every time afterwards. -
Same here...i have the large one + keyboard, not the travel mouse. Works fine in all three Os'es i've used. Batteries last long enough too.

you can buy both dell bt mouse and batterys cheap from ebay .
i never had any problem with dell bt mouses, they are the same as wired ones, no lag or anything like that.
yes, dell mouse is smaller than MS mouse. -
-
I *thumbnailed* them just click and it will full size the image!
Hope they help you with you decision..and yes...the MS BT 5000 is a *tad* smaller!
Just for a comparison: These are all my mice:
Left: Logitech M555b; Dell BT Travel Mouse (Red); Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000 (Nano Type), and MS BT Wireless 5000!
Hope that helps!

Yeah, I think the M555b is about the largest of them...and I really enjoy this mouse. Overall performance, I think it's the best. It has hyper fast scrolling, it feels nice and *weighted*, yet is *lightweight*, the batt' life is awesome, the BTooth setup is fast and easy, can't say enough about the scroll wheel, great programmable buttons, etc. My fav' Nano type of them is the Microsoft Mobile Mouse 6000..that is like literal utter *relaxtion* in my hands....YES!
But, the M555b is more expensive then the Dell BT Travel Mouse..$59.99 vs. around $29.99 for the Dell. And, I do really like the Dell BT Travel Mouse.
Actually the Dell BT Travel Mouse is on sale right now at Dell Small Bus. for $5 off. $24.50, but you pay shipping. I think you can get it cheaper at amazon.
Hope that helps!

Thanks again for all the info. I already have the Dell BT (I got it for $15 from a link you posted a few days back). I found it to be small; I am getting used to it, but I will consider buying a bigger BT mouse if I find a good one (closer to a full size mouse, more like the standard logitechs that used to ship with desktops).
EDIT:
Here are my mice:
Plain USB Logitech (left), Dell Travel BT Mouse (Right)

The pics look good!
It's too bad the Dell isn't working for you..But, you will find the one that works for you! The Microsoft Presenter 8000 is more of a *full size*
Yes, isn't funny that Wired/USB mice are of a nice *larger* size! Well, more made for desktops.
Logitech has the new Performance MX and Anywhere MX Mice out you may want to check..The are both considered *full size* and quite nice mice...They are Nano's..but..
Right now, Staples has the *Anywhere* Mouse on Sale (considered the replacement for the VX Nano), for $59.99...
Here is the Linky
Here is an additional 10% Coupon for added savings if you decide to venture that way!I think it expires today! LINKY
Here is the Performance Mouse: On Sale for $89.99 You could use the 10% coupon on that also..That's one sweet Mouse..It's supposed to replace the MX Revolution..They both have that Darkfield Technology.
