Before I upgraded BIOS to A06 (was A05) it would happily boot from a USB drive, but after the upgrade the LED on my USB drive would not even flash when powering up, completely ignored by the BIOS it seems. It doesn't even appear in the boot menu when I press F12.
Has anyone tried booting from a USB drive with BIOS A06?

Are your BIOS settings configured so it will boot from USB?
-
Yep, tried setting USB devices as the first boot device, doesn't work. But boot sequence didn't matter in A05, because all detected devices would show up in the boot menu when F12 was pressed. Now USB devices simply won't show up in A06.
Have you or anyone tried booting from USB? I'd like to be sure if it's just me or it may be a bug of A06. -
Sorry. I don't have an M1330 so can't try it out.
It sounds like a bug in A06. -
Definitely let Dell know do they fix it for A07, if that's the case.
-
Can M1330 owners confirm this indeed is a bug in A06?
-
I dunno, I had no problems seeing USB as a bootable device in F12 menu. I have A06, came with 1330 that I got last week
-
Sorry my mistake. I've always thought USB emulation is OS related, and because in the description "USB emulation is always enabled during POST", I thought why not disable it. And because of that it won't boot from USB anymore until I re-enabled USB emulation.

Can confirm: My XPS M1330 with A06 BIOS does not seem to pick up USB boot devices.

Tried to boot from my USB pen last night with BIOS A12, USB emulation on, but couldn't boot from the USB pen. Tried to check with F12 if the USB drive was visable there, but no luck there either. Is this function broken since A06 or?

I have used the usb drive to boot a copy of linux many times.
I have the latest A12 bios. Maybe your usb disk is defective. Try with a new one.
Boot from USB drive doesn't work on M1330
