I think I have a broken DC jack on my XPS M1330. The laptop seems to charge when I push the power cord hard enough and hold it that way. So it looks like I need to replace the dc jack because dc power adapter seems to be working just fine. I am out of warranty now. Since the jack is soldered on the mobo, I think I should take this to Dell or some other laptop repair shop for this. What would be your advice on this guys for me to fix this at a cheap price ? Thanks in advance !!

If you're good with a soldering iron, the power jack itself can be bought for next to nothing on eBay. You'll just have to de-solder the old one off and re-solder the new one on. If that's not an acceptable solution, you can probably get a PC shop to do it... but that might cost you just as much as a new motherboard, which is your third solution.

Duct tape is probably a fair short-term solution, but it's going to get annoying XD

You know it might not be the jack: it might be the plug. I've had the same issue more than once, and its always been the plug from the power brick that's the problem.

If you know someone with a Dell that uses the same brick, you might borrow it and see if that's the problem first. Or maybe the computer shop has one that you can try.
