Anyone else's HDMI port break on them? I barely used it.. I've had the XPS M1530 since late March/early April but when I tried to hook up my surround sound today it did not work. I tried using different cables, different port on the receiver, and tried directly with my HDTV but my computer does nothing. I updated the audio drivers and flashed the bios, but no luck. Pretty sure HDMI port broke. What a piece of garbage.

After my lid randomly cracking when I closed it less than a month ago and now this.. I can see how this computer will definitely break by the time my 3 yr warranty ends. Good job, Dell. Could they even replace the HDMI port on the machine or would they have to put in an entire new motherboard? (UGH I don't want some random guy in my house again :( )

does picture work? because if so, the port isn't broken, you simply haven't configured the notebook to pipe sound through the HDMI port. should be somewhere in the sound settings.

This happened to me before (video was fine, but the audio was still coming from the laptop speakers)
If you right click on the speaker in the system tray and go to "playback devices" you will need to set HDMI as default. It was a bit fiddly for me before, and I had to reconnect the HDMI cable and restart the video for it to output the sound through the HDMI.

    Hope this helps

and you should set it to hdmi before you open the program producing the av signal. so close your player change the default device, reopen your media player an hopefully all is good.

Nope, picture does not work either. I should've mentioned that when I brought up my HDTV. The laptop's screen used to flash whenever i hooked up the port, whether it be for picture or sound, but now it does nothing.

Incompetent reps...hmmm. Wouldn't hurt to try. Have you read the HDMI part of the manual? Good luck.
