I'm thinking of buying one from Dell's outlet with great specs for the price. The concern for me is that it's one of the models affected by the Nvidia overheating glitch (with a 256MB 8600M GT GPU). Is it worth bothering?

Does Dell allow warranty extensions after purchase (as long as the original warranty hasn't expired?) I know that's the case for new systems, but I'm not clear about refurbished ones.

if it's within the return period, definitely yes, if it's within teh warranty period, i would only say 80% yes.

I don't know specifically about your Q, but Yes you can extend the warranty... and as long as I remember, I haven't seen anyone with a refurb not being able to extend / upgrade their warranty.

And for your initial Q, not only this system has an affected nVidia card.. there are many many more out there, the problem being, no one really knows which / where those systems are.. lots of cards are faulty, but no one has come forward with the precise details about affected systems / serial no's or service tags or anything like that..

For what its worth, I got my system in May end, and there are people whose systems are nearly a year old, and they are all fine and well... so no one knows at the moment, the details... just get ur system, with warranty and enjoy it...
