    Hi all,

I've reposted here as not had any answers in other sections.

I am looking to buy my first Dell laptop and keep being drawn back to the Studio XPS 16. (UK dell site)

I want to know what you think about Dell - I have read lots of bad stories here but can also go to another brand and read the same! Has anyone had experiance buying in the UK?

Where do I see what number the computer is? ie - 1640 /45/ 47 etc?
Is the Studio XPS 16 I am looking at a broken in system where problems have been ironed out? Overheating etc

This is what I am thinking of getting - Basic specs:

    i7 820QM 1.73
    6 or 8 GB RAM
    ATI Radeon 565v 1GB
    Full 1080 HD LED screen
    500 GB 7,200 HD
    Wireless b/g
    9 cell battery.

    So questions:

    1. Why is there no Blu-ray drive option? An amazing screen but no way to play a disk? In the "Tech specs" it is listed.

    2. Why is there no 'n' wireless card option? I want to try and make myself future proof. Again listed but no chance to add when building

    3. Is the extra 2 GB of Ram going to make much difference on this system? 6 to 8 GB.

    4. What else should I look at? Different makes or models? Sony?

I am also using a 10% coupon which is great. I have the price down to about £1,300. Is there any way of getting a better coupon/price? I am using Dell Coupons Dell Voucher Dell Coupons Dell Voucher Codes Dell Coupon Number & Discount Codes

Any other help or advice really appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

your configuration looks solid , Dell laptops are good , if they are not good then they are not bad either , if it is so then peoples would stop buying Dell So dont worry about Dell

I can say Sony , Lenova laptops are also good . but i'd avoid sony laptops You can buy Lenova Thinkpad T series laptop they provide solid hardware as usual

if you wants a gaming laptop then go for Alienware , Alienware laptops are best in gaming

Or if you need pretty of everything then buy Dell Xps/ Dell studio Xps . Personally i'd avoid dell studio laptops now because they are outdated in my opinion

6GB is enough for everything , but if you can get 8GB then its good .. otherwise Most of gaming don't need more than 6GB RAM . you need good RAM When you converting some videos .

I bought the XPS 17 a month ago, on monday I call them for my 3rd call out to repair a fault they should of fixed last time. If they send you a laptop that works that's great, If they don't then find another brand. if everything doesn't just work after the 3rd call out ( 4th piece of hardware to be replaced ) and they won't give me a refund, I will burn the damn thing and buy a laptop from any other brand in good conscience.

Dude some people gets lucky , they get good hardware and they needn't replace within a months or years , And some peoples get unlucky/screwed it just how it works in every brand no matter if its Apple /hp/ dell/ etc

There will always be a tiny mistakes in electronics. deal with it =))

Yeah it is a bit of a lottery but some are better than others at getting it right first time.

Noone has said why they can't offer the bluray and the wifi n option... that is the only thing holding me back. Is it they don't have enough this week?
