im not sure if it has anything todo with the drive or not as i have had it at times but it is only with some cd/dvd/bd and yet others work fine so it could be down to the disk in the drive.

    have you tried other disks?

I switched out my dvd drive for a hard drive adaptor but I get the same buzzing as well. I think the sound is from the drive vibrating against the body of the laptop. Try pressing down slightly on the right side of your palm rest... the sound should stop.

This is probably either a design problem or just poor fitment... i fixed it by stuffing in some material between the top of the drive and the laptop and the problem went away completely.

I get the same thing on my XPS 15. The optical drive seems much flimsier than the one in my 7-year-old Inspiron 6000. The old one also had much more metal parts, whereas the new one in the XPS is more plastic.
