I think the only screw up I've had was by not using CCleaner.

Yes M'aam. Very good program. I actually use it alot. It get's ride of the extra **** in the temp folder, the history and so much more. One thing i use it for is when i get heated up and go on some not too kosher websites.

It cleans out whatever you select under the Windows tab and the Applications tab.

But if you don't want to clear some cookies, then go under Options → Cookies and select the site you wish to keep. Simple as that. :)

I use it weekly and I always opt to back up the registry before allowing CCleaner to remove invalid registry settings. I just use whatever date it is that I run it to name it and save the file.
If you are running Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0 you may want to exclude these two files:

    HKCR\.psb
    HKCR\PhotoshopElements.Application.6.1

Or you will be prompted to register the product or contact your system administrator or some lame message like that next time you try to open Elements....just my experience....I may be wrong.

I use it at home, at work and on my clients' computers. It's never failed me once.

Another vote for CCleaner with one proviso: be careful with the Reg cleaner if you choose to use it.

I've been reading repeatedly lately that though it, and most other cleaners are relatively safe, there really isn't all that must to gain in performance by cleaning the registry. Some sites I visit - very respected sites at that - forbid discussion of Reg cleaners because so much damage can be doen when a user really isn't sure of what he's doing. Not sure I agree with so harsh a rule, but am beginning to wonder if those people aren't right. Frankly, when I've cleaned my Registry with one of these apps, I've noticed very little change.

I use CCleaner at home and at work. It might be prudent to leave the programs main Cleaner at it's default settings if you aren't aware of the terms used in the Advanced section.

Any attempt to run the Registry section should first prompt you to backup your current registry for peace of mind. This is a setting available to you through the options menu that should be applied before first use and I wouldn't recommend using this portion of the program without such a safety net in place.

I have been using CCleaner without any problems at all. Everytime I do it, nothing happens to the computer other than the fact that my computer had a wonderful rinse n bath.

For a little more info on CCleaner and other clean up utilities, just take a look in Les Vista tips thread.. Its not a detailed view but he tells you very clearly about what to be careful and stuff like that. :)

Btw, just to be really sure, I suggest *always* making registry back ups before you fix the issues after you scan the registry. CCleaner asks you if you wanna make a backup, so just say yes... :) I always do it just in case, but till now CCleaner has been a charm to use :) Cheers.

Running CCleaner is one of the important steps in recovering an infected system if the user wants to avoid a Windows reinstallation.

Running it on a regular basis certainly will not hurt your system.

It's true. Cleaning the registry of obsolete entries (broken links) has marginal impact on overall performance of Windows OS. Reg cleaners have bad stigma because older programs have had bad consequences for the novice user.

Some say its fine, but if there is an option in CCleaner letting you backup the reg's before fixing the issues, I think its there for a reason :) It doesn't hurt too much to back up just in case. I have a separate folder where I backup the reg' before cleaning and its hardly taking any space. In any case, you can delete them after a while :)

So, backup, just to be safe than sorry :) Cheers.
