    Hey everyone.

I have been experiencing a lot of problems with the burner in my XPS M1530 lately. It used to be that bumping or moving my computer while burning a CD would cause it to eject and fail. Now it seems that it won't burn at all. I am beginning to become quite frustrated.

I have Windows Vista Home Premium with SP2. The device is called TEAC DVD+-RW DVW28SLC ATA. It's a slot loading drive with DVD and CD burning capabilities.

I tried to burn a CD yesterday with the Zune software. It completed and the software called the process a success. I took the disc out to my car and it would not play. Just to check that it wasn't a problem with the car stereo, I tried the CD in my computer. It showed up as being completely empty.

My initial suspicion was that Zune was the reason for it's failure. I have never really had much luck with the software for burning purposes in the past, and I only continue to use it to burn CDs because of the simplicity of dragging and dropping files from my library into a new playlist for burning.

This afternoon I tried burning the same CD (different disc, same playlist) while using the latest version of CDBurnerXP. I chose that software because I was looking for a free burning application that would allow me to import a list from a playlist file (.WPL); and it seems to be well respected as CD burning freeware.

The burn process seemed to carry out without any interruptions. It said the burn was successfully completed. I took the CD out to the car to test it out and it also did not work. I should have looked at it in my computer to check but I was running late. You can imagine my disappointment and frustration.

I am going to try burning the disc again using CDBurnerXP and a different brand of media. I am doubtful that it will work but am willing to try. I just thought I'd ask about the issue and see what people have to say.

It's strange because the drive has worked for all of the DVDs that I have watched recently. The software also hasn't mentioned anything potential problems with the device, either.

Thanks for taking the time to read through this. Any suggestions are appreciated. If I can't resolve the issue then I'll have to go through Dell support.

    Best,

Update: I have tried burning the CD over again and it is still not working. The drive doesn't even seem to be making any noise while the software claims that it is burning. :(
