Anyone see this? That is pretty amazing... 10000:1 contrast, .0004ms response time. Anyone else notice though that the LCD hinge is different? Unlike the 1640 that I have, it doesn't have the exposed metal "hinge" on the frame that shows the screws... the LCD bezel is all black... why can't we get that... would definitely look nicer /envious...

Wonder how much this option is going to cost...

better than the RGB 1080p screen?
thanks goodness I just drop my laptop at UPS for return. -
Too bad those numbers (response time and contrast ratio) aren't really an accurate comparison of the quality of the screen. Would be nice if they had a side by side comparison of the OLED and LED screen.
-
when they push them out u`ll wet ur pants.
-
In a few years, when they're ready to release these, they'll have even better concepts out...
-
OLED generally uses less power, although it oddly depends on the application. It has no back light, and each individual pixel is a light source, so the more pixels that are lit up, the more power is used. If you're browsing a bunch of mostly white web pages, full screen, it could use as much power as a regular display. But in most scenarios it's a lot less.
-
this laptop would cost like $6,000....
and it would still throttle. -
lmfao Zlog. dell would kill pixels randomly to conserve power
-
Damn thats a really nice screen, i am so going to jump for that and also when they have the new ati 5870 monster graphics card.
-
But the thing is what will the life expectancy of the screen be because i read the larger the screen the more faster it dies?
-
i can almost 100% assure you that this wont come out this year/at all.
-
Forget a 16" laptop screen.

Then why the hell show off the screen, why can't they just release the damn thing, the 1647 even looks a bit different in design.
-
PR, obviously. People salivate over that, then say, "hey, can I get me one of those?" So they go on Dell.com and see the XPS 16 and say "wow, that's a nice looking laptop. Not as nice as the OLED concept, but..." and buy one.
-
truth...
-
I wonder if they would let you order one over the phone for $10000 or whatever it is 16" OLED screens cost.
For people like freelance graphics designers or photographers, it might actually be worth it -
i dont really care about the changed metal hinge design, but the OLED screen.. thats definitely something i want and also something that will cost too much for me for a few years for sure.. my next lappy will have OLED screen for sure

Don't OLEDs have shorter lifespans compared to their LED counterparts?

Consider that a 15' OLED costs about $2600, I just don't see them coming to laptops anytime soon. That said, I had a Samsung i8910 mobile a while ago, which housed a 3.7' AMOLED screen - man was that a killer...
The main problem with this technology, is that it does not work well under the sun - at least the current generations. Maybe in the future they would put coating to change that, but who knows.
