I may do this next weekend...too many thunderstorms at the moment.

Question: How do you 'stay disconected from the internet'...when you are on the Dell website for this updater?

Also, when you say 'turn off the protection crap'...you mean something like Norton antivirus?

if your battery power is high then you should be fine, my comments were a general warning to the stupid, because power cycling the system mid bios flash will likely cause you no end of headaches.

you download it to your pc, when you click download, select save, not run, get it onto your machine before running it !

oh hell yes, norton likes to meddle where it has no right to, any of those sort of programs that think they know better than you, and could interfere with the update process need silencing with a big stick first :D

Funny...thought 2 8GB would work for 16 total...got some time to do it, went to the Crucial site, let them scan my system, it only says this will work:

    8GB Kit (4GBx2)
    DDR3 PC3-10600 • CL=9 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1333 • 1.35V • 512Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT3320160

I have Bios 17 for my XPS17L2. I could have sworn this or a similar scanner said 2 8BG would work just a few months ago...

Why did you opt for that when it's downclocked to 1333? Price? I'm just wondering since I would have thought you could get 1333mzh for less.

well, like it has been discused on several topics, the 1333 speed BIOS limit has been passed with modded bioses

there are also some users like ximenez using 1600 memory modules at max speed on his L502X

the 1333 limit is just present with dell official bioses, so yes, it is posible to take advantage of the 1600 modules over the 1333 ones at the l502x and l702x machines with proper bioses

Working for me too, L702X non 3d (2 slots) with A11 bios! :D

2 x gskill F3-106666CL9S-8GBSQ failed with any bios, just post code error. My Inspiron 17R SE (7220) runs them fine though, lucky for me.

Corsair's seem to be the reliable option for the L702x - i know i do like other makes to, like patriot and mushkin, but given the sheer number of us running corsair in these with no problems, it's hard to recommend anything else !

Agree. Its great just being able to have 16gb of any brand and have it work. Besides, the days of buying top shelf 'fast' memory are long gone for my systems.

I have a Dell XPS 15 L501X and purchase 16gb ram CMSO16GX3M2A1333C9 and am getting error on bootup "error 210 CPU variable MTRR configure failed".
I have A08 BIOS which does recognize the 16gb ram but won't boot computer instead I get error above with beeps.

Any thoughts or am I SOL?

Have you tried one stick at a time to see if maybe there is an issue with the new RAM ?

When I try to insert them individually I get the blue screen of death and laptop reboots itself in a loop. Only when I put both of them together do I get the 210 error mentioned earlier.

I know the RAM is good because I put it in a another laptop I have and it works without issues.

I'm not sure then, that stuff you have is 1333mhz Value Select, my only real experience is with 1600mhz Vengence running at 1333mhz, and on a L702x, so a number of variables there, any of which could be the problem, my initial thought is that for some reason your laptop does not like that memory
