    Hey guys,

I was checking out the thread with all of the tools and drivers for new XPS 15 systems, and I came across CPU ID. I downloaded PC Wizard 2010, and after looking around a little bit, I noticed it only picks up the Intel Graphics, and does not recognize the 2GB 540M. I also ran the benchmark, and the video results were horrible, so I don't think it is actually using the video card.

It doesn't mention the NVIDIA card anywhere, not once. All of the other benchmarks were fine, except for the video benchmark. I also went into the NVIDIA control panel, and adjusted the global setting so the laptop uses the NVIDIA card whenever possible, same thing - still doesn't say anything about the 2GB card, only the Intel graphics. Tried shutting down, restarting, etc.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. I like the idea of the power-saving with the Intel graphics, but so far it has been a pain in the .

    Thanks,

    Erick

Have you checked to see if it is in Device Manager?

I have the L702x and my GT 555M doesnt show up in HWiNFO but it is in Device Manager and is available to be used when it is called upon. Maybe some software does not recognise it and therefore does not display it.

To both of you, HWiFO & CPU ID will only see the Nvidia card if a program is using it because of Optimus.

If you have the 3D model then the Nvidia card should be displayed at all times.

Makes sense I suppose. I just assumed that because it could be seen in GPU-Z it should be seen in HWiNFO. Does GPU-Z activate the GT 555M then?

Not sure, I don't have GPU-Z installed. the Nvidia GPU Monitor should show you if that program has activated the card.

From what I have seen with this laptop different software tools report differently, I remember early on where some of these tools reported a B2 chipset and some reported a B3.

Guys this sucks, not being able to run any benchmarks using the 540M. My roommate has a desktop and he was just telling me how laptops suck - I wanted to show him what this thing could do. Does anyone have a solution?

    Thanks,

    Erick

A simple benchmark wouldn't even wow your friend.

Just install an graphically intensive game, and impress him that it could run :)

Laptops are weak compared against a desktop of a few generations old.

It is super-simple: just right click on the game's (or any other app you want to run using nV) shortcut on your desktop and select: 'run with graphics processor' -----> 'High performance nVidia processor'

Btw, Optimus is not like you have 2 completely separated/independent VPUs in your system. This was the case in the past but not anymore. Optimus, however, means that the VPUs are subordinated to each other (Intel VPU is the highest in the hierarchy). nV goes THROUGH Intel VPU and that is the reason why it is invisible to certain sw.

I tried this and couldn't find it, tried with 3 different programs, in the Start menu and in the program file directory.

    Am I missing something?
