I have the I7 2670. I guess I just want to know if this is a good processor? Did I buy the low end? Will I run into issues later?

Everything I play runs fine, but I have noticed there are so many I7's and I have been out of the loop for a while, so any info would be appreaciated. I have looked around on the internet reading articles, but I am more intrested in opinions from actual game players and dell owners.

    Thx, Rob

It's a very good processor. The i7-2670QM is just below the i5-2500 in performance. It has lower base core rates but more turbo boost steps and hyperthreading so it performs very close to the i5-2500 under load. In some instances, it can just outperform the i5-2500 and perform slightly closer to a i7-2600. The fascinating part is it gives you this desktop-level performance while consuming a fraction of the power and generating a fraction of the heat.

Any game that you play should choke on your graphics card way before your processor limits you. The quad core is far more interesting from a productivity perspective.

The i5-2500 and i7-2600 are desktop parts , totaly different world , but yes the i7 2670 QM its a fantastic CPU , in the world of mobile CPU's you can call it a enthusiast class CPU , ( the 5-th fastest at this moment i believe )
Exaltare is absolutely right about the Graphics been the bottleneck , even the GTX 580 M cannot choke the i7 2670 in most cases .

Thanks guys, I will be honest when I say I didn't give the processor much thought when I bought my XPS. Just wanted an I7. I am glad to be back into computers again, time to start learning again.

I have been playing with MSI Afterburner with no problems. Right now I run at stock as all works well. Do you have any suggestions when it comes to overclocking.
