I had a few quick questions regarding CPU whine. I have now had my laptop for a week and its been perfect, but the whine started yesterday.. even though it hadn't done it for the first week I had the system.
1. Why did I not have CPU whine when I first received it, but now I do a week later?
2. What version of "RMClock" do I need to download and how exactly do I use it to get rid of this whine?
Thanks!

You THINK you hear a whine, probably because you started reading about it on this forum, and all the naysayers put the thought in your head!
-
Haha no I hear it... it's not obnoxiously bad I was just wondering what to do about it..
Also I was wondering and forgot to ask... is there a button to eject DVD/CD or do you have to go to explore, right click, and click eject? Been driving me nuts!!! -
-
The eject buttons right above the keyboard. To the right of the power button. You shouldn't have a whine. I think you may b the first 1530 owner to report this? If you do, just call Dell and get a replacement. Are you sure its not just th fans going on?
-
Thanks for the eject button info... logically you would think it should be next to the drive... whatever haha
The whine is definitely there.. it goes away when you scroll up and down on the net.. similar to the M1210 but not nearly as bad. -
no cpu whine on mine either, just a little whine from the hd spinning though... cant really hear it unless i but my ear to the left palm rest
-
what does the cpu whine sound like anyway???

i noticed mine was whining 2 days after i bought it and me detecting the whine wasn't influenced whatsoever by this forum, i noticed it myself. very annoying noise when alone in a quiet environment the whine comes and goes and isnt influenced by scrolling
-
that whine was on my 1710 and you are going to tell me Dell hasn't fixed this issue yet? LOL

My girlfriend has a Vostro 1400 and it never has the whine issue.
My xps M1530 has it, althought it isn't terrible it's still an annoyance. -
I have two identically specc'ed XPS1530s and have no whine on either one.
I can barely hear the systems at all, the fans rarely kick on, the harddrive is barely audible and there is no CPU whine.

I am with you Elrabin, besides getting my screen replaced (just cause, there really isn't much i can find wrong the samsung wsxga+), this system rocks.
No cpu whine, hard drive is barely perceptible, and the fan kicks on when I am playing games. -
I have had my system for less then a month. I just started hearing the noise (I would have never searched this forum if the noise just started, so it isnt influenced by this). So I am wondering If i should just call dell and have them send me a replacement laptop. This is ridiculous. You think they would fix this problem with how much people are reporting it and how much money they are losing for sending out all of these replacement laptops!
-
No, there most likely IS whine on most, if not all systems I would imagine. It's a factor of how good your hearing is, and if you're generally a hearing-sensitive individual. If I were you people complaining about a very faint high pitch whine, I would just live with it (that what I did). More than likely, the replacement you get will have the same faint high pitch whine as well. But hey, maybe you'll get a miracle laptop.
Oh, and there is a fan that runs ALL THE TIME on the 1530...again, maybe some people's hearing is that bad, but it's always on (maybe it's the HDD fan?)...and on top of that sometimes another fan that turns on during CPU intensive moments. -
sometimes my cpu whines also while shutting down....it sounds like underwater bubblesor boiling water...like that
