Hi,
The Dell UK website states:
If your order is listed as Order received, Order Processing or Work In Progress , you may still be able to cancel your order please inform us right away by filling in the web form* below.
If your order has passed In Production or Shipped its no longer possible to cancel it. However, after you receive delivery of your order, you still have the option to return it to Dell within 7 days from receipt of order.
There seems to be a grey area concerning their 'returns policy' and their 'cancellation policy' - the wording is a bit 'hazy'... it doesn't explicitly sate what to do if you choose to cancel the order while it is in transit - it only says that you can 'return' the order when you receive it...?
Surely you can still phone up and cancel an order while it is in transit and avoid 'returning it' which incurs a fee!!
(I might be wrong but...) Im pretty sure you are within your rights to cancel an order at any stage before you sign for it even tho it says If your order has passed In Production or Shipped its no longer possible to cancel it. What happens if you refuse to sing for an item... you have not taken possession of the item and therefore have nothing to 'return'!
Has anyone had any experience with this..?

If you refused delivery of the item they will have to refund your money as you never actually got it.
They don't allow you to call and cancel with this method as they have no idea that you would actually refuse delivery...
If you refuse delivery and give them a couple of days to get it back in their system you should be able to cancel without any fees. As that is a mandatory provision in their agreement with the Credit Card banks that authorized payment for the laptop.
Although, I recommend you make certain of that with your CC bank or Dell since you are in the UK and I'm in the US (rules might differ...) -
the guy i spoke with called UPS and told them to stop the delivery, and said i did not have to pay the £20 pound return fee (since i didnt actually receive it)
but by this time, i had already been charged the full price obviously so now im waiting for my refund which the dell person told me would take around 7 working days once they receive the laptop back.
so yes, you should call them and see what they say!
the reason i cancelled so late was because the system i was ordering did not have a blu-ray player, but at the end i realised i did want one
re-ordered the same day, hopefully have the new system next week -
Im waiting to see when they change their offers (tomoz) whether or not I can get a better deal than I got when i ordered sun night... might not have to cancel but just wanted to know what my options are!
Cheers guys - appreciate it!! -
the second time i ordered i also used a 10% discount voucher, which i didnt use on my 1st order because i did not know they existed!
so with the new system + blu-ray drive, i actually saved £2 lool.
price of original order was £854, second order with blu-ray was £852!
the 2 weeks i have purchased, they've just kept the same offers. but they might change em a bit for xmas? -
it says in their return policy NOT to refuse delivery as it will just delay your refund. Call them and explain the situation and as long as you dont open the box, 90% of the time they will waive the restocking fee. Just depends on your luck

" Q: Should I refuse to take delivery of my order?
A: No, you should always accept delivery of your order, refusing delivery will increase the amount of time that it takes to process your refund.
If you would like to return your order, you should accept the delivery, and then contact Dell Order support to
arrange the return of your order.
We will setup the return of your order and arrange your refund."
That doesn't actually say you can't refuse delivery - they only 'advise' that you don't refuse delivery. This is because once you accept the item they can enforce their re-stocking fee as the item is now being 'returned' and is subject to their conditions!!
However, they can only charge you a re-stocking fee if the product is a 'return'. Therefore, if you refuse to accept the item - you have nothing to 'return' & are still entitled to cancel your purchase!
This avoids the element of 'luck'!
Can I cancel an order while it's in transit?
