    Hi,
Is it possible to upgrade my CPU from the installed T7250 to a T9300/T9500 or better ? I've been in touch with Dell who say it's possible but don't recommend it as my motherboard - PU073 - has only been tested with said
T7250 and reckon it wouldn't work properly .... now .... I have looked on forums where people have said that it's possible with an M1530 however nobody has said which motherboard they have so i don't want to buy one and find i've wasted my hard earned cash !!!
    Any ideas ?????????????????

It should work, try updating the BIOS before you upgrade though.

If you get a good deal, then if it doesn't work well in your notebook, you could just resell it. Shouldn't lose much doing the test.

As Moral pointed out as well, it will work. The M1530 uses a PM965 chipset and thus supports up to 800Mhz FSB processors i.e, like the T9500 and the latest A12 BIOS update should cover it. The motherboard model has little or nothing to do with the CPU upgrade concerns, but rather, chipset and BIOS support. In this case, it will work. There are even X9000 users running in their M1530s.

PS, I should tell you that Dell Reps are sometimes completely clueless about a certain notebook. There was a similar M1530 case whereby this user wanted to upgrade his CPU - they told him, that the CPU is -soldered- onto the motherboard, and that particular T7xx model is the highest. To upgrade, buy a new motherboard with a better -soldered- on CPU - Now that is the stupidest advice I've ever read across. And I just don't understand how these guys can be hired for the job...

Sometimes the best remedy is to ask us - or the owners who use, own, upgrade and clean/maintain their notebook.

Thanks for the replys guys ..... Do I take it then that I could put any of the 'T' series CPU in my M1530 .. i.e. the T9900 with 3.06mhz etc ..... that seem to be the highest grade of CPU for the T series

I have the latest A12 bios upgrade so it's a case of just choosing and installing I guess, do you know any cheap suppliers of the CPU's ???!!!

again many thanks for your advice

The T9500 is the best CPU supported my your chipset (except for the X9000).

The newer T9900 has a 1066mhz FSB which wont work with your notebook.

Ebay is one of the best places to get a CPU.
The NBR marketplace is also good, cheaper than ebay most of the time.
