    I would like to upgrade my Dell XPS 17 L702X 3D (purchased in June-2012) to 32GB of RAM (4x8GB). The kind of memory I would like to buy is the following:

    4 X Kingston KHX16S9P1K2/16 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM HyperX Plug and Play Memory Module

    I know some people seem to have this config, but the guys from Kingston memory insist they believe my laptop will only take 16GB (4x4GB) max. They asked about my motherboard model, which appears to be a Dell Inc. 03RG89 with the A17 BIOS, and I am now waiting to see what they say.

    Any clues?

    Thanks

    Many posts on the topic ... here is one of mine:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...-new-update-4dimms-l1702x-17.html#post8161058

    Bottom line:

    The L702X can handle 8GB modules.
    2 slots = 16GB
    4 slots = 32GB

    Minimum BIOS - A12 is what mine came with and 32GB worked fine
    Minimum Processor to address 32GB (AFAIK) = i7-2630QM

    Kingston knows _their_ memory.
    L702X owners have validated a few different modules from Corsair and Patriot.

    So, if you meet the minimums above, it's just a matter of finding out if someone has specifically
    used the Kingston modules you referenced.

    My question to you is why are you set on paying ~$100 more per kit than you need to??

    Patriot = $100 for 32GB
    Kingston = $300 for 32GB

    I can't see DDR3 1600 on the L702X making a huge difference over DDR3 1333

    They seem to work just fine (4 X Kingston KHX16S9P1K2/16 16GB 1600MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM HyperX Plug and Play Memory Module)

    Thanks!
