The chipset supports it, so I guess it's down to BIOS support. Which I would say there is a big chance of it being a drop in. Maybe you should update your BIOS before you do it though.

I would get the T9500 and try to overclock the FSB though.

AFAIK, Yes, and the m1730 bios supports X9000 overclocking itself.

Yes the x9000 a straight swap with overclock support (multiplier unlock).

Just make sure you have the latest BIOS.

Of course the M1730 accepts the X9000. ;) The overclocking settings are available in the BIOS once the chip is installed. (BIOS A10 is the latest) OC frequencies are 2.8, 3.0, 3.2 and 3.4GHz respectively.

Run at 3.2/3.4GHz will have all your 3 fans (2 for your 8700M SLI, 1 for your CPU) will run at full RPMs, giving cooler operating temperatures, dropping at least 15*C down.

Give it an undervolt + ICD7 on the CPU will be the best recommended cooling combo.

    Good luck.

The X9000 was made for the M1730. I run it in my M1330 but the BIOS doesn't allow OC.

Doubt you can find a brand new one, even if you do it will still retail at like $700.

Buy a second hand one, try not to get an ES (Engineering Sample) chip as they are more inferior than the full fledged version.
