Can my XPS M1710 be upgraded from T2500 to T7600 and run at 64bit?

Hi All, I have an XPS M1710 Core Duo, with an upgraded 7950 GTX GPU which I'm going to be changing to a Quadro 3500M for OpenGL. If I change the CPU from a T2500(2 GhZ) to a T7600(2.33 GhZ). Will my Mobo run at 64bit or not? My brothers seems to think not, and I'm not sure on this one!

    Thanks

    Paul.

Yes, you can use a T7600, and it will give your machine 64bit capability. The processor swap should also be plug and play; you probably won't even need to update your BIOS!

So the Mobo can handle a straight swap of CPU's from 32bit to 64bit?

What do you consider "pseudo 64bit"? It'll run a 64bit OS and associated applications; what else do you need?

Yes, it will work, and even more, if you get the T7600G, it will be overclockable to over 3GHz from BIOS.

No that's fine, just wondered whether the speed would be less than an ordinary 64bit setup. Thankyou.

Only the T7600G is overclockable in the M1710. :)

Hey guys, first post here. I've been off and on again looking for answers to pretty much the same question about the XPS M1710. I've done tons and tons of research about the individual components of my M1710 and their compatability with x64 systems. Everything I've read says all of the components are compatable with x64. I've come across many nay sayers, and plenty of people who say it can be done. I too believe it can be done. I would just like to know what I need to do in order to make the conversion. Now that Windows 7 is out should I go with that or stick with Vista 64 bit. Will I need to do anything special as in update the drivers, etc... I am pretty good with plug and play: RAM, hard drives etc. I just don't know what the process of upgrading from 32 bit to 64 entails exactly. I don't want to take the chance of ruining anything.

I appreciate all input. Please feel free to ask any questions if need be.

    Thanks,

    Elliot

Hi there, as I write this to you, I've got my lovely G chip installed with a Quadro M3500 'under the hood'. It's merely a case of taking the old chip out, and installing the 64bit chip(using an anti static wrist strap and some thermal paste......that's it).
Install which ever 64bit OS appeals to you(XP for me) and you're good to go. The 64bit world is yours to explore......and find that some packages no longer work....such as PC Tools Spyware Doctor. They're not compatible with 64bit.

    Enjoy!
