I can see some tempting configurations of SXPS 16 at Dell outlet with "Certified Refurbished" category. And also sometimes we get additional 10-20% discount coupons for Dell outlet.

So, my doubt is, Can we really trust Dell outlet for 'Certified Refrub' laptops or its totally depends upon luck ? The configurations I want can not come within my budget if I order a brand new SXPS 16, but certainly will come from outlet. Again, as I'm from India and my friend will buy/bring it for me from USA and then it will be difficult for me to return the unit to Dell, if I discover any issue with it. So I'm confused to put my $s for a second hand laptop :D

Need some suggestions from NBR mates who have made deals with Dell outlet.

My laptop came from the outlet as 'Certified Refurbished' and it was as good as new. No scratches or dents etc. Also managed to get one which was listed incorrectly, so instead of paying around £900, I got it for under £600.

Yes, someone I know has purchased several laptops from the Outlet, as well as a few monitors. : )

And, when you have the Coupon Codes, it makes for even a better deal for the savings...
I would not hesitate to purchase from the Outlet.

Then why people order new laptops instead of buying from Dell outlet, if the configuration matches ?

Also, is there any particular day of week/month when Dell updates their inventory for outlet ? So that we can check for those specific day to get more options to choose from.

Again, one major doubt comes to mind that ...
For a particular category (Certified Refurbished) and for the exact same configuration, WHY the price varies ? (Assuming Dell cross checks/tests the laptop and repackage it and then certify it) That means...Are the laptops, of different hardware quality or quantum of defects ?

I have bought numerous computers from the Dell outlet............most of them looked brand new. They come with a regular warranty which you can extend.

You have the same chance of having problems with a new one as you do with one from the outlet. The conventional wisdom is that the computers in the outlet have gone through more extensive checks than a new one.

I've purchased plenty of "refurbs" from the Dell Outlet. Never had a problem, and most were like brand new.

i have bought over 60 or 70 laptops from dell outlet alone , more if includes brand spanking new dells.
dell outlet is a hit or miss-- either you get a well configured laptop at a super low price or you get a lemon with some hardware broken rit out of box.

OMG ! Hit or miss. 50-50. Afraid of it, as my luck is not with me ever :D
But how Dell can sell broken hardware saying re-tested/repackaged/etc... ?

Where can I find discounts/coupons for refurbs? I'm in the US.

To keep on topic though, several years ago I ordered a refurbished notebook and it was great.

I've had good luck with dell refurbs from the outlet

Watch Slickdeals.net: The best coupons, deals and bargains to save you money!
    - lots of good deals there (Hot Deals forum)
    - coupons seem to range from 10-30% (very rarely 20-30%...avg 15%)
    - also you have to watch the prices, alot of time dell like to jack the prices up when they release the coupons

Dell Outlet's Twitter page is the best resource for their coupons:

    Dell Outlet (DellOutlet) on Twitter

And other than being really confused yesterday with the packaging that my "new" laptop came in (as they no longer use brand new packaging but more environmentally friendly simple packaging in the Outlet), it's working great so far. This is the fourth I believe computer I've purchased from the Outlet, and all have been just fine.
