I need a new screen for my xps 1530. I have been reading about the WSXGA+ (P/N xk309), and was wondering how easy it is to convert from a WXGA (P/N C931C) to WSXGA+? I contacted dell and they said the WSXGA+ was not compatible with my computer. Is this correct? Has anyone done the conversion, if so how did you do it?

Almost positive you can do it, you even have the option to go WUXGA on the m1530...seen the screens on ebay

its a bit simpler. The standard is called LVDS and its sort of uhh... scalable:
-older 4:3 XGA laptops tend to use 20 pin LVDS.
-MOST laptops now use 30 pin. Really any 16:10 laptop under WUXGA is using this same interface.
-WUXGA resolution exceeds the 30 pin hardware limitations completely. You have to have 40 pin. you could need either a new cable, motherboard or both.
a few brass tacks:
...so the connector on 30 pin LCDs under WUXGA is mechanically the same too, and theres not much stopping you from switching up LCDs on more recent laptops. BUT this ONLY applies to CCFL screens.
LED lcds use different interfaces based on brand. Your laptop supports both so watch out. I don't know what LED LCD brand it uses. Also the entire lid and hinges are completely different because its thinner.
Can you convert an xps 1530 from a WXGA LCD to WSXGA+
