Hi I own a out of warranty M1710.. Yesterday while surfing the web my screen suddenly went black. I rebooted and noticed that there are now loads of lines all over my screen and when it loads to the next screen I see some green boxes.
I have let my Laptop cool down for 24 hours and its still doing it. I emailed a guy online who said he can fix for £100 so I am guessing he will fix the actual GC rather than replace.
So my question is if he can fix it can you advise me what I can maybe try to fix it ? Or is it defo dead ?

Fixing the GPU itself is not something a home user can do, and not something most shops can do. Replacing the motherboard-gpu combo however is something a savvy home user can do however, and just about any shop can do.
Option 1: Replace the motherboard. This is the safer option. Probably cost anywhere from 150-250 parts and labor.
Option 2: Find a specialty shop that specializes in reflow soldering. There are several shops on ebay offering this service, and I've seen it done for around 60 GBP. This is obviously the cheaper option.
Pick one. If you can afford it, swap the mobo. If you can't, go for reflow. -
Am gonna bake the card in the oven tom and give it a go
Can you help me fix mt GC on my M1710 ?
