Can you use clear shelf liner as a custom skin?

I just bought a Dell XPS 17 and I carry it to work everyday and would like to protect my investment. However, those laptop skins are pretty pricey at $20+!

Then, I thought maybe we could use clear shelf liner? Something like this:

20"X15' Adhesive Liner - Clear at Menards

We need something that's 17x12", that roll is 20x180" for $5, enough to cover my gf's XPS 15 and my XPS 17 and probably a ton more!

It says it's removable too, what do you guys think?

ok, I finally did this. It doesn't look perfect but it doesn't look too bad either. I bought a roll for $4 from Walmart. Con-Tact brand. 15 or 20ft, I have tons left!

Way cheaper than paying $20-30 for those vinyl ones + s/h!

Let me know if you guys wanna see pics.
