    Hi,

I've just received a dell xps l502x and I'm trying to install my windows 7 ultimate x64 and when I boot from disc it says a required cd/dvd device driver is missing. I've downloaded the rapid controller driver and it finds it as Sara ahci controller but says it won't install. I've tried about 10 different versions and just can't get it installed. Could anyone please provide me with a driver that works so I can start using this amazing laptop. I'm pulling my hair out with this now :(

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Kev

    Anyone please?

It won't find the hard disk, but it finds it in the bios no problem. Just need this ahci driver then I can start installing windows 7.

Are you sure that discs works? Sometimes that error can be a bad disc. Also did you try the F6 SATA driver? Windows 7 should already slipstream that on the disc.

Also do not bump your thread more than once in 24 hours.

this is a guess based on previous experience but are you installing windows via USB? if you are, you cannot use the USB3.0 ports. you have to use the usb2.0/e-sata port on the right side of the laptop. (usb3.0 drivers don't come with windows)

edit: nvm, sounds like ur using a disc

Tried my friends windows 7 disc just to check and it's the same with that. I've burned the f6 Sata drivers to a disc and put that in when it asked and it says can't install try an updated driver. I've downloaded the latest driver from dell I've tried latest intel rapid driver ( at least I think it's the latest) and it just won't install. My friend had this problem with his l702x and he eventually found a driver that worked. I'm having no such luck.

    Cheers

I think Windows 7 has that driver included already. I remember that i had the same problem with friend's laptop. I was searching for solution, but without success.

At the end it was dead HDD! Check your HDD!

I'll test my friends original disk as mine and my other friends is a downloaded Iso image. Thanks guys. I'll see if I can run some tests on my hard disk too.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

Windows 7 has the drivers integrated, it doesn't need the F6 even for RAID anymore (bye bye floppys!).

Definitely try a real disc, not a downloaded one. Someone might have tweaked that ISO you got...
