So, this afternoon I tried to customize an XPS15 build, and to my surprise the upgrade to the FHD B+RG 1080p screen was not available. Anyone know what is going on?

    Same for Argentina.

I guess this will be temporary, until they are again FHD stock screens.

Same in the US. I have a bad feeling this may be a permanent move just like the HP envy radiance screen went to the graveyard RIP

Its probably just a shortage for the Christmas season.

Yes, it disappeared off of the US website as a selection sometime Friday. I can't see buying such a nice machine and not get the 1080p screen. Anyone have an opinion that they would have rather bought the 720p version instead of the 1080p?

If I was buying a laptop with a mid range GPU for gaming, I'd opt for the 720p screen for the lower resolution. I prefer to run games at native resolution, and I'd get better performance at 720p.

Just to let you guys know, Dell UK has put the FHD screens back on for their original price of £170.

I just placed my order! :D

Not up on the US site yet but most likely it'll be up soon.

IIRC, 1280x720 actually looks pretty decent on the 1080p screen. It isn't as sharp as the 1080p resolution, but for games, it's pretty good. Just my humble opinion,

1600x900 looks good on my 1080p screen. That is what I run all of this years' games at. Like SC2, BF:BC2, New Vegas. Don't own Black Ops.
I've thoroughly enjoyed them all, then again I just play to play the game, I don't pause it and pull out a magnifying glass to see how good/awful everything looks.

    **New Development!!**

Yes, I know most dell customer service reps (especially on the online chat) do not have a clue. But the rep I just spoke to informed me that the FHD 1080p Screen is DISCONTINUED for the XPS laptops!

This is terrible news. I was ready to pull the trigger, but I can't see myself buying a new notebook without a 1080p screen :(

Heres a snippet of my chat:

    16:08:46 Mike
but it hasn't been discontinued like the RGBLED screen for the studio XPS model last year?
    16:08:49 Mike
    just out of stock?
    16:09:12 DINKER_S
as of now - it is discontinued
    16:10:06 Mike
oh really? do you know the reason? performance problems?
    16:10:22 DINKER_S
we have no info about that

This is what a customer service rep. wrote to me regarding the FHD screen:

Our apologies, however due to shortage, we are not offering the 1080P screen as of the moment, we are expecting that the option should readily be available again by next week.

I was told by the rep that once they hit a 30 day delay they will pull it. It should be back soon.

To be honest most of the Dell chat reps I have spoken to have been misinformed, disinterested or just stupid so who knows what the actual story is with the screens.
I would guess it is just a supply and demand issue. The Dell UK site pulled them but has recently re-introduced the option again after a couple of weeks.

I was told by a rep yesterday that it will be back as an option. That it was just a stock issue. Time will tell, I can wait a little while and see what happens.

I think it's a stock issue, cause it is back on for the Singapore dell, i quickly made an order. Hopefully it would come before Christmas =D
