Hey y'all, I'm currently on holiday in switzerland![]()
Anywho, I got a car adapter so I could sparta kick orcs on the way there (long car journeys suck)

The problem is that my computer doesn't recognise it as a dell adapter and therefore gets rather irritating when it says it doesn't know what wattage it is (100w, which is fine), because of this it gives me rubbish about not wanting to charge and running at a lower speed because of it.
I tried closing quickset but that didn't work, all I want to do is make it realise that the power supply is plenty poweful enough so that it will work just like it normally does. Is there anyway I can trick it into thinking it's a dell one, or just remove the function entirely?
PS, I found the power adapter warning thing in the BIOS and it didn't make any difference, it just warns you. It seems to be a dell popup that's being silly.

I take it it can't be done realistically then?

Geh, I think imma hook the thing up to my osciloscope when I get home so I can find out what identifies it and possibly make a microcontroller fix something up for me.

Car chargers that go directly into devices are so-so. Current & Voltage output can vary wildly. Most reliable route I've found is to get an inverter that will put out at least 150% of your power needs, then plug the regular adapter into that. Even then, they overheat and fail just like the car charger.
As far as being unable to ID the charger as a Dell, that wouldn't be a huge problem if the power output was stable enough. -
I have no doubts that it can put out enough power, my computer uses about 85-ish watts when going full tilt (I measured). It's just that it panics because it doesn't know how much power it can draw, hence why I would like to trick it into thinking it's connected to a 90 watt adapter or something.
