What are you using? I'm looking for some good neoprene slip cases and bags. This will help me to help me decide which laptop to go for as theres not much difference in weight between the two laptops with regards to portability.

I recently got a this bag.
    http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=399512
Its got a nice felt lining for the laptop compartment and nicely padded. Its also got loads of compartments for other stuff and a fabric zip case for your charger which you could use as a pencil case if you wanted to.

If you want some pictures let me know :p

I am using this Case Logic for my XPS 1640.
I already used it for my previous lappy 15.4' but XPS16 also fit in perfectly.

I've been looking on the Targus website and I'm quite impressed with the Targus Zip-thru's you can unzip the complete bag for quicker x-ray scanning through airport security. I think a 15.4" version of one of them might fit a sxps1640.

I notice as well quite a few 15.4" cases would fit the 1640 and you don't need to go for a 17" case.

This video shows one of the zip-thru's

I use a Swiss Gear backpack because I take mine to school all the time. Love it. And for just carrying it around, I use the case that came with my old 1330. Fits perfect.

I'm using the SwissGear Ibex backpack that I used for my 1720. I can put the 1640 in it with an extended battery in the laptop portion of the backpack and still have room to spare.

I went on ebay and got a m1330 sleeve, and just carry my xps 13 in that. I carry my laptop in a regular backpack.

Sure thing. First, they took a long time to ship the item without even notifying me it was out of stock (until I emailed them). Once I got it, the color looked nothing like the picture showed and was a yellowish ugly color. They claim it is slightly different, but it's way different. I immediately returned it for a refund.

I recently found a nice bag in Staples. It's actually a portfolio, but it looks and fits great. Not much padding, but I am very careful anyways.

I had a look in the Apple store in London today, yep Apple store, I wouldn't buy an apple though it was more to do with my ipod. I noticed the make "incase" has some very nice neoprene slip cases for the mac book, and mac book air, perhaps these will fit the Studio XPS 1340?

They look nice, plain black on the outside

I thought I might mention this laptop bag from Samsonite in the 15.4". I have physically seen this one and measured it and diagonally screen wise you could fit a 17" inside there so it's suitable for the SXPS 16.

It offers really padded protection, you got to see it to appreciate it and it has butterfly zippers so you can put a small lock on it. Other good features of it is that you can slide it over a rolling suitcase handle and theres plenty of space in it to accommodate other things.

    http://www.samsonite.co.uk/prod35515.html

I wouldn't mention this one unless I thought it was good, it is seriously.

I looked at a few sleeves for the xps 16, but wanted something with a little more protection and better 'custom' fit. I ended up with the Timbuk2 Wiki (L), and it fits pretty snugly inside as far as the width & height, with ~1 left on the depth.

I ended up getting it for ~$40 shipped, so it's on the higher spectrum, but it's a snug fit, with more protection that can be carried around, or placed in a bag. The handle is not removable, though.

If anyone wants to see pictures, I'll take a few and post 'em up...

    Cheers!

I was looking at getting the Neoprene sleeve from Incase too but I have a feeling the height of the 1340 is a bit over. But I could be wrong. Could anyone suggest a nice sleeve? I'm planning to put it inside a Crumpler bag. Just need some extra padding (the soft velvet sleeve that comes with the laptop does crap-all for shock protection).

    And, a few more:

has anyone found a sleeve that fits the 1640 (with a 9-cell).

I'm sure the 17" sleeves would work, but i'm wondering if anyone has found a sleeve that fits a little better.

    1640 dimensions:
    Width: 15.15" (384.9mm)
    Height: 0.95" (24.1mm) front / 1.34" (33.95mm) back
    Depth: 10.02" (254.6mm)

Here's what i've found so far:

    Reversable case logic - 16" x 12" x 2"
    but it says it will only fit 14" x 12" x 1.8" so i don't know

    Case logic - 15.5" x 12.75" x 0.75"

Designed for dell - don't know about this, customer review says it won't fit the 1640 and someone in this forum said the same

    ???

or should i just screw it all and go with a 17" notebook. i just didn't want it to be too loose. It's a shame about the "designed for dell" a nice snug sleeve would be nice.

i thought some manufacturers would have started making 16" notebook sleeves since they're becoming more common, but i haven't been able to find any.

    Any suggestions?

I actually liked.. Belkin slim backpack for 17" .. The cushion is too good for laptop.. specially for SXPS16.. I know.. even 15.4" Belkin slim backpack would fit SXPS 16 .. but.. I might kinda use the minute amount of space provided by 17" incher

Could the XPS 16 still fit in bags/cases that are meant for 15.4" since its width is 15.15"? Or would it be better to get bags meant for 16" - 17" laptops?

For my XPS 1340 I bought the Brenthaven Trek Sleeve. Kind of a hybrid between a neoprene sleeve and a padded form-fit bag. I can drop it in my backpack with my huge 17" work PC when I travel, but can use it separately while still keeping my mouse and power supply with me. It wouldn't work with the 9-cell battery, but is a *perfect* fit with the 6-cell. Paid full retail for it ($30) which is rare for me, but it was the perfect bag for what I was looking for.

im searching for an army-style backpack with notebook pocket, but there ain`t none!

Army because i want to have those small pockets on the outside of the backpack, unfortunately ALL notebook packs don`t have that! (why?)

must`not be army, also something like outdoor/trekking/wildstyle/nature would be cool.

    any ideas?
