What are you using? I'm looking for some good neoprene slip cases and bags. This will help me to help me decide which laptop to go for as theres not much difference in weight between the two laptops with regards to portability.

I recently got a this bag.
http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=399512
Its got a nice felt lining for the laptop compartment and nicely padded. Its also got loads of compartments for other stuff and a fabric zip case for your charger which you could use as a pencil case if you wanted to.
If you want some pictures let me know -
I am using this Case Logic for my XPS 1640.
I already used it for my previous lappy 15.4' but XPS16 also fit in perfectly. -
Those are both nice bags
Have either of you checked out Targus or Swiss Gear?
Cin -
I've been looking on the Targus website and I'm quite impressed with the Targus Zip-thru's you can unzip the complete bag for quicker x-ray scanning through airport security. I think a 15.4" version of one of them might fit a sxps1640.
I notice as well quite a few 15.4" cases would fit the 1640 and you don't need to go for a 17" case.
This video shows one of the zip-thru's

I use a Swiss Gear backpack because I take mine to school all the time. Love it. And for just carrying it around, I use the case that came with my old 1330. Fits perfect.

I prefer the messenger style bags, anyone come across anymore?
-
Some nice ones over here from Tumi but seriously expensive
http://uk.tumi.com/business-and-laptop/laptop-cases/ -
I'm using the SwissGear Ibex backpack that I used for my 1720. I can put the 1640 in it with an extended battery in the laptop portion of the backpack and still have room to spare.

-
Check out www.ebags.com for some nice messenger bags, or even amazon.com.
I know Mobile Edge makes some good Messenger bags, also!
Cin -
I went on ebay and got a m1330 sleeve, and just carry my xps 13 in that. I carry my laptop in a regular backpack.
-
I was wondering if you ever got this bag and how it worked out for the 1640,
also can you post a link to where you got it and how much it was?
Thank you!!! -
I recently found a nice bag in Staples. It's actually a portfolio, but it looks and fits great. Not much padding, but I am very careful anyways. -
I had a look in the Apple store in London today, yep Apple store, I wouldn't buy an apple though it was more to do with my ipod. I noticed the make "incase" has some very nice neoprene slip cases for the mac book, and mac book air, perhaps these will fit the Studio XPS 1340?
They look nice, plain black on the outside

I got the Belkin Energy Messenger bag fom Dell when I orderd my sxps 1640 it fits nicely and the bag is verry light compared to my old dell bag for my Inspiron 6000

has any bought the original dell sleeve for 1340?
-
It has very clean lines on it, very simple & durable!
Nice!

I love my kenneth cole 13.3" bag for my sxps 1340
a little pricey; but its sweet -

-
I bought a Crumpler Barney from PC World. Its messenger type bag.
https://www.dixons-online.net/martp.../Laptop+Cases+and+Bags/Crumpler/Barney/138565
I'm thinking of getting a slip case as well for added protection. -
-
Would any Americans know of a good USA web store that has a decent range of Targus and Case Logic cases that ship to the UK?
-
I got the Crumpler Gimp 13 as the slip case for my 1340
-
I got the Timbuk2 CrossTown, but it hasn't come yet. So I'm using the sleeve it came with and putting it in my computer backpack
-
Any idea if this neoprene slip case will fit the Dell Studio XPS 1340?

I thought I might mention this laptop bag from Samsonite in the 15.4". I have physically seen this one and measured it and diagonally screen wise you could fit a 17" inside there so it's suitable for the SXPS 16.
It offers really padded protection, you got to see it to appreciate it and it has butterfly zippers so you can put a small lock on it. Other good features of it is that you can slide it over a rolling suitcase handle and theres plenty of space in it to accommodate other things.

I wouldn't mention this one unless I thought it was good, it is seriously. -
Was looking at this for my M1730: http://www.booqbags.com/Python-XL
Booq has some nice bags but they are pricey, not sure if I want to spend that much. -
I looked at a few sleeves for the xps 16, but wanted something with a little more protection and better 'custom' fit. I ended up with the Timbuk2 Wiki (L), and it fits pretty snugly inside as far as the width & height, with ~1 left on the depth.
I ended up getting it for ~$40 shipped, so it's on the higher spectrum, but it's a snug fit, with more protection that can be carried around, or placed in a bag. The handle is not removable, though.
If anyone wants to see pictures, I'll take a few and post 'em up...
Cheers! -
I've always wondered about this one!

I was looking at getting the Neoprene sleeve from Incase too but I have a feeling the height of the 1340 is a bit over. But I could be wrong. Could anyone suggest a nice sleeve? I'm planning to put it inside a Crumpler bag. Just need some extra padding (the soft velvet sleeve that comes with the laptop does crap-all for shock protection).

meritline.com has some sweet, inexpensive lappy sleeves..I have 2 already, and a new one on the way:
Here is a nice one that may work..(don't know if you will like the outside decor, though)

And, a few more:

Here's a page with them all:

Hope that helps!

will have a look.
EDIT: Oh and yeah, you were right about the decor -
I thought you might not like the first one..most peeps just like all black on their sleeves!!Just wanted to show you the choices and great pricing!!
Hope you found something that might work!! Please let us know if you did!

I've got one of these:
http://www.caselogic.com/15_4_canvas_messenger_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=113539#
I don't have my SXPS16 yet (waiting for the new graphics) but according to the dimensions, it should fit just fine- some room to spare actually. So far, just as a messenger bag, I like it- good amount of space, well built, etc. Closure's a little weird, but usable. -
At ebags.com you can usually find some great Messenger Bags..at huge discounts (esp. if they are being discontinued)

has anyone found a sleeve that fits the 1640 (with a 9-cell).
I'm sure the 17" sleeves would work, but i'm wondering if anyone has found a sleeve that fits a little better.
1640 dimensions:
Width: 15.15" (384.9mm)
Height: 0.95" (24.1mm) front / 1.34" (33.95mm) back
Depth: 10.02" (254.6mm)
Here's what i've found so far:
Reversable case logic - 16" x 12" x 2"
but it says it will only fit 14" x 12" x 1.8" so i don't know
Case logic - 15.5" x 12.75" x 0.75"
Designed for dell - don't know about this, customer review says it won't fit the 1640 and someone in this forum said the same
???
or should i just screw it all and go with a 17" notebook. i just didn't want it to be too loose. It's a shame about the "designed for dell" a nice snug sleeve would be nice.
i thought some manufacturers would have started making 16" notebook sleeves since they're becoming more common, but i haven't been able to find any.
Any suggestions? -
-
Can people suggest bags with major protection and still looks attractive for the xps16? Thanks mates
-
I actually liked.. Belkin slim backpack for 17" .. The cushion is too good for laptop.. specially for SXPS16.. I know.. even 15.4" Belkin slim backpack would fit SXPS 16 .. but.. I might kinda use the minute amount of space provided by 17" incher
-
Could the XPS 16 still fit in bags/cases that are meant for 15.4" since its width is 15.15"? Or would it be better to get bags meant for 16" - 17" laptops?
-
For my XPS 1340 I bought the Brenthaven Trek Sleeve. Kind of a hybrid between a neoprene sleeve and a padded form-fit bag. I can drop it in my backpack with my huge 17" work PC when I travel, but can use it separately while still keeping my mouse and power supply with me. It wouldn't work with the 9-cell battery, but is a *perfect* fit with the 6-cell. Paid full retail for it ($30) which is rare for me, but it was the perfect bag for what I was looking for.

Does this bag http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...etail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A2851790 comes with the same kind of cushion like the belkin Slim backpack

im searching for an army-style backpack with notebook pocket, but there ain`t none!
Army because i want to have those small pockets on the outside of the backpack, unfortunately ALL notebook packs don`t have that! (why?)
must`not be army, also something like outdoor/trekking/wildstyle/nature would be cool.
