Is there a big difference beyween the i5 processor and the i7? This is already a big improvement over my last system so what argument can I use to push for a i7?

i7 is quad core, so it really depends on whether you want have to that extra power/ability to do heavy duty multi-tasking. The nice thing about the i7 is that they hyper thread and can turbo, so an i7 can beat almost all dual cores on the market. I personally would go quad because IMO its more future proof.

With that said an i5 is still plenty powerful, depends on the sort of applications you will be running. For most gaming an i5 is more than ample, and it should consume less power.
