Noticed some changes on the available specifications of the XPS 15 and 17 today.

    XPS 15

2nd Generation Intel processors no longer available?
    The current list is: i3-380M, i5-480M, i5-560M, i7-740QM and i7-840QM.
Processors like the 2630QM seem to have vanished entirely.
2nd generation processors are available again!

Only choice of graphics card is now the 1GB nVidia GT 420M.
2GB 540M is now available again!

Intel Wireless LAN 6200 card is now available (+£5.00)
Bluetooth 3.0 Card is now available (+£30.00)
    No separate cards now

640GB HDD (7200rpm) now available again - changed to 2x320GB recently because it was supposed to be in short supply.

    UPDATE 7 MAY
    15.6" Multi-touch HD WLED (1366x768) screen (2MP webcam) is now available. [+£170]

    Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000, Wireless-N 1030 (bluetooth combo) and Advanced-N 6230 now available (again!)

    XPS 17

Full HD-1080p 3D screen with 2MP webcam now costs +£280 (previously +£190). HUGE PRICE HIKE?

640GB HDD now available again (2x320 still available - costs £20 more for dual drives).

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 card now available (+£20) (2x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo - unlike XPS 15 with separate cards).

Dell do seem to enjoy price-gouging the UK :(

Maybe 2nd gen Intel processors are in short supply again and they're cutting down for now? I guess it'll be a while before we start seeing Sandy Bridges in the outlet, then...

I don't know why they hide it so much but if you are looking for sandybridge XPS try this link I got sent by a dell rep. You have to be in the UK dell store for it to work

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=N00X5M04&c=uk&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&model_id=xps-15

Try playing with the code N00X5M04 is XPS 15 Model 4.
N00X5M01 would be XPS 15 Model 1 (for instance if you wanted a i3-2310m model)
N00X7M01 would be a XPS 17 Model 1 etc etc.

They all seem to have different discounts and options available.

What you are seeing is the severe retardation that is the dell website. I was looking for a lot of the options when I first started looking, and they didn't exist, but there are quite a few links in these threads that still have all the good stuff you can configure and then buy.

Dell sent me an email today, anyone spot the mistake?

I bought a Dell XPS 17" Laptop L702X New 2nd Gen i7-2630QM from ebay, 2 problems I'm having 1st is changoing ownership with dell, as the guy I bought it from sold it on behalf of one of his clients, and for configentiality purposes cant and wont disclose their name so i can trtansfer ownership, second problem is every where I read it says it will take 16 gig of ram, it oly cam with 8 4 X 2 gig slabs, I bought 4 X 4 gig slabs and if I put all of them in the laptop wont turn on, the power light comes one, no beeps nothoing on screen, if I eplace one of the bottom slabs with one of the origional 2 gig slabs, it boots up, bios detects 14 gig of ram, so does windows, did some heavy diagnostic tests on the ram in windows and all test passed, can some one shed light on why I can use all 4 4 gig slabs?
Any one else experiencing this type of problem. I did read a couple of posts about this model only supporting up to 12 gig of ram, but everyt were else says 16 gig, maybe I', the first and only to try the combination of 1 x 2 gig slab and 3 x 4 gig slabs..
it has the following specs when bought from the guy off ebay
Intel 2nd Generation i7 2630QM Processor with Turbo Boost up to 2.90Ghz
    8GB 1333Mhz DDR3 SDRAM [4x2GB]
3GB Nvidia GeForce GT 555M with 3D Enabled
    2x 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drives
    BluRay & DVD Combo Drive
    Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS
    Backlit Keyboard with TouchPad
17.3" FHD WLED TL LCD [1920x1080] with 3D
    9 Cell Battery
    Windows 7 Professional 64Bit
JBL 2.1 Speakers + Waves MaxxAudio Enhancement
    HDMI 1.4
it didnt arrive with the 3d glasses, but the seller initially said it didnt coe with them but after he spoke to dell turns out his client was miss informing him as once you upgrade to the 3d screen the glasses are automatically included.

the brand of 4 gig slabs I'm using are
    Kingston 8Gb KIT 2x 4GB DDR3 PC1333 SODIMM Non ECC CL9 (2x Single 4Gb Stick)

    Part No: KVR1333D3S9/4G X 2

Haha they could change the price in the US several times and you'd still be the cheapest region.

I mean, I've only got the basic screen and 6GB ram and I paid $400 more than you :D

    Damn UK taxes.

Perhaps you might want to check on the memory as it has to be fixed properly. My laptop came with 2x2GB and I bought 4x4GB from Crucial. All 16GB worked on my L702X though.

Both BIOS and under Windows 7 recognised all 16GB of memory. So far so good!

Dell would always change their price irrespective of whether it is cpu or memory or anything. If you really notice, the price will come back to almost the same even without the discount. Dell is still offering Sandy Bridge on the XPS 15.

It is also quite expensive in the UK too...

£280 GBP converts to nearly $430 AUD.
