I got the dreaded GFX card fail on my 1710 a couple of months ago (about a month after warrranty expiration).

Is it possible to get some kind of dirt cheap GFX card replacement to fit to get the notebook booting up again properly (not in safe mode hell)?

Having bought a new laptop, I'm not worried in the Dell being able to cope with gaming, just the bare essentials of web browsing, e-mail, MS Office stuff and downloading.

have you tried the oven method. basically, you put the gpu in the oven and pre heat it up to a certain temperature. you can try searching the forums for it.

I broke my computer then I called Dell and they sold me a warranty to repair my problems even after I told them my issues. When I was going to buy complete care I called and told the first person my service tag and asked to purchase the warranty and she got all excited and stuff, I am thinking they get paid more if they sell you warranties. Just call Dell and ask to purchase an Extended Hardware warranty which covers all the internals of your computer and on site service, etc, etc. It might cost a few bucks because your computer is made of expensive parts, I have an XPSM1530 and it cost me about $230, your cost might be a little higher, but it's better than buying a $600 video card.
