Dell XPS 1530 Ferrari Leather
Specs:

• Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz 4mb cache
• Nvidia 8600GT 256mb
• 3Gb ram
• 160gb 7200rpm
• Intel wireless N
• 9 cell battery (4 hours of office work and surfing web 100% brightness)
• Warranty: Until Dec 30th, 2010

I have been applied the leather to my laptop since January and there is no scratch to the leather. The leather is removable and there will be do damage to the laptop. The leather will stay there permanently as long as you don’t remove it.

















It's awesome to have the leather on the palm rest.
The dell logo is not annoying anymore. I replace it with a plastic Ferrari sticker.
The bad thing I still can fell the HDD is hot . But never get shock again

Looks nice! So, this is some form of 3rd party leather skin you purchased and installed? The skin came like this stock or you had to do lots of customizing? Where did you get it, and how much was it?

@Luke1708: I paid up to 45$ for that.It's expensive but worth every penny.

@jfdube: I have to draw a corel file with real measurement. it takes around 5 hours for me to do that . They dont have the plastic Ferrari crest on it. I have to buy it somewhere else. I only do laser engraving the Core 2 extreme & nvidia logo the palm rest.

@zfactor: now it's a personal taste. I like red and my original xps comes in black so I fed up with black. one more reason: laser engraving in black leather sucks and also the black leather quality is not as good as red.

Looks like the laptop has an identity crisis going on here .

 

The back (lid) looks very slick and awesome, the red and black work really well. I'm not so sure about the keyboard area, think it would work better if the keys were black? Personal preference though I guess
Overall a very nice mod, leather must feel great, good job with the engraving

 

Sorry, i'm one of the neighsayers, I'll come out and just say it. I much prefer the stock look and feel, especially when a laptop, well, has nothing to do with an italian car-maker in terms of pretty much anything.

But, I know that its the cool thing for a market segment, since Asus offers laptops with Ferarri or Lamborghini styles. So kudos on doing it yourself! I will say you did a great job even though I wouldn't do that to my PC - but thats the reason i voted negatively, however, you are indeed skilled

imagine this: what do you think when ppl come to you and ask "where did you buy your laptop?" and you answer: "it's a Tuxedo black xps 1530 but I apply the red leather and make it unique."

Like you, I thought the satin black was too dull for an XPS notebook so I painted mine RED. See sig.

I'm a fan of your job. Your thread persuade me to make my red XPS.
Since the cost for a paint job is close to what I have to spent for my leather. I don't know how to paint by the way so I have to pay for the paint shop. However, the leather will make my XPS look more luxury so I do leather.

the red skin on it is nice, the ferrari badge on it is dorky. it's a computer.

on an Acer it looks super fruity and they actually have a deal with ferrari to badge their notebooks with it.

Well see how long it actually holds up before it starts peeling up and stretching..... and the oils from your hands start eating away at it. Show us an update picture in about 6 months or so..

 

Very valid point IF you use the mouse pad. Wouldn't affect me as I rarely use it. I use a Trackball mouse at home and a wireless mouse on the road.

 

Very cool mod! I would love to do that to my palm rest. I would likely have gone with something other than a Ferrari logo on the lid. Maybe something more geek or gamer, or just a unique design. Other than that it looks great. Nice job!

Buddy I did not have the patience to go through all the pages in this thread, but it looks very nice...however, I suggest you to remove it, because nVIDIA already has an overheating issue with this laptop, and you are adding fuel to fire.

but the the leather is not cover the card. the only place it cover is the HDD. and you know what. after 1 month, nothing did happen.
