I was just wondering how many people get constant static on their XPS m1530 even when the volume is on mute
-
-
I'll try mine when I get home later today. I've had my 1530 for about two weeks now but have yet to try the headphone jacks at all.
-
i thought this was only a problem on the inspiron's, which is why I opted for the xps system. I hope not....
I'll see when mine gets here , in 30 freakin days(2-15-08) -
I hear some rustle on the left one, but it is very constand and not too loud. on the right one there is some annoying whining.

It's a very light, constant static. However, I've experienced this with many products that take headphones, not just laptops. If it is whining though, that is probably not normal.
-
Well I thought it was only Inspiron series problem. I hope mine is alright. I'm getting mine in a few days.
-
i have very quiet "fuzz" coming from both headphones - same as someone else, it's common with many devices that take headphones. i wouldn't call it "static" (which i associate with a lot more noise).
-
no static on my mp3 player headphones.
-
I have the m1330 and experience this problem too. I have never experienced this on my inspiron e1505 though.
I need to call Dell tech support and ask them about this. But, I am too lazy and have just been dealing with it. -
finally got around to checking this. Mine's perfect. I hope you try different head phones. Headphones could be the problem.
-
I just got around to checking mine and both sockets are fine with no static/hum with or without media playing and mute on.
-
To all that have NO static/hiss/white noise whatever on either jack, are you using the creative earbuds provided?
I get mild white noise on the left jack with these and the same but intermitant whines on the right. I think both are affected by moving the USB mouse around. Hold it still, some of the noise goes away. Move it, it's there. So there's definitely interferance. But if everyone can use the included headphones it gives a great base level.
By comparison, I have similar issues with my Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 pro ear phones, but cannot notice this issue with my Senheiser 500 headphones, probably because they need to be driven louder.
I'm trying to determine whether there are some m1530s with absolutely NO noise on both jacks using the creative headphones. If there are, then I'm going keep pestering Dell until they fix mine
FYI, I'm going to go to a shop in the next few days and test several different brands with the above 2 pairs of ear phones to get a baseline feel for what to expect. -
not no noise on mine, but very quiet fuzz - as i explained above. tried a few sets of headphones, and all have the same fuzz.
it's not impacted by anything (eg external devices/mouse etc) - and the fuzz is there from the moment i turn the laptop on (eg through the windows loading pages) to the moment it switches off. -
I noticed a constant static when using the Dell earbuds that came with my m1530. I switched to another pair of headphones and it sounded great.
If you have static... try better headphones. -
Ive tried three different sets of headphones, have gotten static on them all. A repairman was here today and changed the motherboard, no difference in static. I have however gotten some other problems afterwards.
1) Screen flickers for a sec on vista login
2) A plastic component is now loose
3) The hinches on the screen makes a small sound when I close/open -
There is a difference between interference and static/white noise. Static/white noise is what you hear when you watch an untunned tv channel. It is possible that this is always present to some extent BUT it should always be constant. You should not have any clicks, pops, whines coming and going. If you do, then there is interference. AFAIK.
I listened to a Compaq and got only this background white noise. No interference. I get white noise on my left m1530 jack, but intermitant whine on the right, along with the odd pop sound on both, amongst other things.
Also, ppl cannot say "Get a better pair of headphones." That's not the cause of the noise. My ultimate ears are worth US$250. -
i also have static noise in my m1530, but i think it is because of static electition on the aluminium case of the laptop. Could be wrong, but it is the most logical exponation i can found.

i do have the it in my xps m1210
but not in the 2nd socket
lets hope my xps m1530 don't have it -
yeah you were supposed to get creative earbuds
-
Dunno sonicwind, might depend on the country you live in. I got 2 pairs as part of the deal, didn't need to select anything. Likewise the travel remote was part of the package - no option to not select it. I assumed both of these were standard from what I've read.
-
Sorry for the bump, really trying to confim that there are 1530's that have NO static (constant noise even when muted) when using the supplied creative ear buds. Ie, they are COMPLETELY SILENT, both jacks. I just listened to my brother's HP and it has ZERO static when using my headphones. Also, check the left 2 usb ports using a usb mouse for interference (not present on the right usb port).
-
yeah dell is just bs lol my replacement laptop also has static problems
-
The same problem for me, with my 1720: the first one had static and also the replacement one has it!
It's very ennoying, hiss, whine, like morse-code that i can ear using any type of headphones...
What do u suggest to do? -
I really think DELL is mocking us, take a look!
2 different agents, 2 different stories -
Similar issue -
When using AC power and a stereo cable connected to my stereo I get interference. (It does not matter if I have 5.1 or stereo output selected)
I do not get the interference when running off the battery.
I do not get the interference with headphones (either with or without the AC power)
I have tried the stereo cable to my ipod holding it next to the AC adapter and get no interference.
So basically, I want to play Blu-Ray over my stereo and TV and cannot use AC power without getting interference (Static). (Same result using a DVD)
Anyone else have the same issue. -
Just registered to let you know that the static noise issue on my 1330 was solved by using the DELL slim power adapter ( http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=310-8814).
I did a lot of search before buying the adapter and apparently there exists a grounding issue with the santarosa platform which on DELL machines is somehow bypassed by the above adapter, or any similar one I guess. Can't give any more technical details, they are way over my head....Just let you know that now when i connect my laptop to my external amplifier there's no static at all.
-
Have you guys ever tried to click arrow on the volume control (supposed to be with the sound "DING") and then drag the arrow up and down before the "DING" disappear? My 1530 made stupid buzz when I plugged in headphone and then clicked that (no matter the creative earbuds or whatelse). Also the Dell repair man has changed the motherboard for me. No differences.
-
Nope no static...all quiet and works like it should!
Cin -
Really?? You did the way I said? If that's true I will keep pestering Dell until they fix mine.
-
i get static on mine when music isn't playing, WHATEVER headphones i use, and in both jacks.
Just need to make the point on the included earbuds here, i didn't get any, and it's either due to: a) I'm in the UK - but I think they normally come in the UK, and b) I ordered it through the business section of the site. I have a feeling that meant I didn't get them, they only come included with home orders, might explain it for some.
