Parts of the chrome trimmings of my XPS 15z have simply gave way. They were just torn apart. Is it worth calling Dell about this and getting it repaired, or would it just break again. Would they secure another one better, or just do the same half assed job they did with this. It serves no purpose at all, but it annoys me seeing such a defect on a laptop that cost me $1000+.

This sounds like a common issue with the 15z. Apparently the trim is just glued on and often just falls off on its own...not a great job by Dell on that system. I'd say start hollering.

Do you have a pic? I would like to see this.

I'm supposedly getting a 15z soon I'm wondering if this issue with the chrome trim has been resolved with new laptops? Or are they still constantly falling off?
-
While I haven't followed too closely, I do hear about it a fair bit. Anything that is just glued onto the edge of a computer will fall off pretty easily anyway, a total redesign is needed to cure the issue as I understand the problem.

Ah, that sucks. Hopefully its not worse then the trim on the 1645, but from the widespread complaining it does sound like its worse. Also I've been looking around and I don't see a XPS 15z owner's lounge. Weird.

This is like an unofficial owners lounge

I noticed that, and it's kind of irritating that it doesn't have it's own thread. Like is it not important enough? Even the two different variants of the XPS 15 have their own threads.
Chrome Trim ripped off - worth calling?
