I just recieved my machine. Very nice, but review later. (only 2 dimms).

I am trying to do a clean install, but am out of practice. I start up the computer with the windows disk in the drive, and the new ssd plugged in. It runs for a bit saying windows is loading files, and then stops and just goes idle and doesn't go anywhere.

Shouldn't it start the installer from the disk?

Just let it sit, sometimes it can take awhile to load.

If an XPS comes from Dell, why would you wanna do a clean install? Any advantages beyond getting rid of the shareware/pre-installed crap?

Can I ask what method you used to install windows 7 on the ssd, did you have a new version or did you re-use the oem that came with it?
Thinking of buying an ssd for mine when it arrives.
    Thanks

i bought an aftermarket ssd and i just installed from disc. i swapped the hdd into bay 1 (port 1), though, and then put the ssd into bay 0 (slot 0) where the hdd previous way -- for some reason, the mbr wasn't letting me reboot to the ssd during the install process when i had it in slot 1.

I did a clean install but I'm still missing the Ethernet controller driver. Does anyone know where I can get it from? I have already installed the latest drivers from the Dell website.

So do dell send you a windows disc or do you have to create one and use your oem product key?
    Thanks
