Has anyone used one of these? Keyboard Silicone Skin

I've been using something similar on my Inspiron 1520 for over a year now and it's great. Just want to get any feedback from someone that's used it with this laptop.

Will this also help stop the keys scratching the screen, I would hope?

What are you getting this for? Just curious....

I wouldn't bother personally... keyboards are so cheap now I'd just replace it after it gets warn........

After a bad experience eating at the keyboard while rushing to get my homework done before deadline, my Inspiron 1520 had crumbs all under the keys. I popped a few keys off to clean out under them and broke the keys in the process. I ended up having to get a new keyboard for it.

So, was hoping to avoid that with my new 1645.

I actually got a ShaggyMac microfiber cloth that covers the entire keyboard/touchpad, and I just type over it. (customized size)

Of course, you'd have to know your keyboard pretty well to do this because the cloth is opaque and you can't see through it ;)

yupyup. pretty neat. I customized mine so that the width is large enough to cover the rubber seatings for the screen so it doesn't leave that rubber impression on the plastic screen cover.

Yeah I am thinking about getting one a bit bigger and cutting out the corners for hinges to properly cover this beast.......

    I customized mine to be
    Width 14 7/8 in
    Depth 8 3/4 in

The depth is fine, but just note that this will cover the media touch keys at the top. (It goes right up to the imaginary line b/t the 2 hinges such that the lid will close properly, and it will cover the silver trim in front)

However, even though, before purchasing, I measured slightly below 15" for the width (14" 7/8), the actual cloth exactly covers the 2 outer edges of the rubber so that it will act as a barrier between the lid and the rubber when I close the lid. The inconvenience with this exactness is that I have to spend a few extra seconds aligning my cloth before I close the lid. (14 and 7/8 in. does not extend into the silver trim).

I'm probably going to order another one later one, I would probably recommend 15" exactly or even 15" 1/4 for the width, and the same depth of 8" 3/4.
